Good day all! I just received a really nice BSA 222 and it came with the Lee neck sizing dies(collet dies), I never used them and was wondering if it was better to find me some full length dies? I have only one 222 and will reload only for that rifle if that make a difference.
I only really intend to use it at the range to save money on powder and bullets, for practicing( 20gn of powder is a lot cheaper than 50+gn)
Anyway what are your thoughts?
Thanks
David

I use those in a few cartridges, never had an issue. If all you're doing is neck sizing however, eventually you will have to bump the shoulder back. For that a FL die is required. - dan

...or a shoulder bump die. Personally, i would have both, and use the FL die with new to me 1F brass, and the shoulder bump die for brass I've fired.

I like the idea of neck-only sizing--particularly with a range/target rifle--until some resizing of the cartridge body is needed to permit chambering. I've discovered that many precision shooters really like the Lee Collet die. It resizes the neck without the twist/torque of a standard neck sizer that drags the button up through the neck potentially adding excessive run-out to the case. I follow the Accurate Shooter forum pretty closely and ran across this piece about using the Lee Collet die that you might find useful.

As others have pointed out, at some point, you will have to size down the case body to permit easy chambering. My preference for that would be to use a body die (Redding makes one), rather than a full-length resizer. FWIW, I use neck-only sizing with LE Wilson bushing dies for all my cartridges and use a Redding body die when chambering becomes stiff. I think you'll find that your new triple deuce will give you superb accuracy with neck-only sizing. I've found mine to be about the most accurate rifle I own--as good as or better than my PPCs.

Awesome info you guys thanks! The rifle did came with a few brass fired in that rifle! And I found new old stock of Remington ammo that I will start with anyway, so that should get me going till I can find a Redding body die!

You can order just a Full length Lee sizing die separately. Adjust it so you just bump the shoulder enough to allow easy chambering. Probably cost you 25% shipped to your door vs a Redding body die.
