Hi all,

Until now, I'd not owned or even handled a Browning Auto-5. On a whim, I had purchased a Japanese-made Auto-5 12ga barrel with Invector Plus chokes, but I had no luck tracking down a receiver, so ended up reluctantly and regretfully parting with the barrel a couple months ago.

Lo-and-behold, I recently happened upon a Browning Auto-5 Sweet Sixteen and bought it sight-unseen. It just arrived yesterday, and I'm tickled pink --- beyond the interesting long recoil system and lovely build quality, I'm excited to make my first foray into the world of 16ga.

This particular shotgun is from 1990 and has a 28" vent rib barrel with Invector (standard) chokes. It weighs 7lb 8oz and balances on the front edge of the receiver. I'm planning to use it for grouse next season.

A surprise was that it came with the original box, but it's mixing a couple of tidbits. I have the manual and the 3 original choke tubes, but I think there's a missing sheet metal choke wrench (covered over by the manual in the picture), maybe another part on top of the choke wrench, and something that goes in the foam cutout between the receiver and barrel. Can anyone with an Auto-5 of this era confirm what I'm missing as I'd like to put together a complete box.

Anyways, I've read the other forum threads on the Sweet Sixteen, so hoping some of you will enjoy the pictures.

@kamlooky, sorry you missed seeing it! I had the barrel listed for a couple of weeks and was a bit surprised there wasn't more interest.

@45CAT, I think you might be onto something. I found this image of a more recent Auto-5 and that area has a cable lock, albeit with a larger foam cutout, but you can see the original pattern matches my box:

Beautiful shotgun, dad had an FN sweet sixteen when I was growing up and the fit and finish showed what a shotgun could and should be. It was a fixed full that shot very tight patterns and grouped slugs like a rifle. The only thing dad didn’t like was the ejecting shell flying past his face, dad was a southpaw. I still hear the sound of the action closing on a new shell, it rang shut like a bank vault door.

I have just got the same shotgun a few weeks ago. Mine was made in 1963 and was made in Belgium and is also in a very nice shape.
They are very nice to shoot and Like you I am going after grouse with it this fall. My sweet sixteen has a fixed choke.Steve!

Thats a beauty, have my grandfathers old A5 from the 60's. Still knocks geese down like nobodys business when I occasionally take it out.
