So this guy phones me up and offers me a few toys he's hardly used. One of these is a Glock 17. I've never owned one so I figure what the hell, I'll buy it. I'm not 100% positive but I believe this is a first generation based on the lack of finger groves on the frame.I know these have quite the fan base, so I'm itching to find out how it compares to a BHP, my 1911a1 and cz-75.

Older gent that can't use his guns due to health. I bought all of them as a package and this was one.:D This thing is strange. It both attracts and repels me.It's so untraditional. I think I like it already and I've only had it a couple of hours.
2nd gen. perfect. pics help.
Are there any other differences?

See the trigger pin? You have just one pin... on the models soon after yours there are two pins. This isn't a big deal, but you cannot put at .40S&W slide on yours because of this (not that you would)

TN, I look forward to your first range report. Like you, I think these things are the ugliest damn pistols that I have ever seen. On the other hand, all you hear are good things about them. When you fire it, I suspect you will either love it or hate it. Please let us know. If you love it, I may have to make it my next purchase.
 
If you've shot mostly single action then it'll probably take you awhile to warm up to the Glock trigger. Throw in a $20-$25 Glock 3.5# connector before you pass final judgement.

Third gen models are more sought after, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with a second gen. Most people never actually use the accessory rail and the straight grip (sans finger grooves) will fit everyones hand instead of those with just the "right-sized" fingers.

It was like that with me years ago when I first saw a Glock. It was such an odd looking gun made with plastic???? :eek:
But as the years passed and the acceptance was huge, they have been tried tested and remained true. I tried my friend's G22 and I was sold! I bought a G22 and recently a G37 and love them both. It really does take a sewing machine repairman to shake up the industry! Maybe he should try his hand on a automobile!! :cheers:

No, it hasn't. This guy kept all the brass for his guns that he shot. 14 rds for a Win 94 Big Bore .375win and a box(50) of win FMJ of what weight I can't remember, for the Glock.
 
I've got a good video on how to detail strip a Glock (easy stuff). You can find the same video on YouTube, but the video size on YouTube makes it a little hard to follow the detail. If you're interested, I'll figure out some way to host it so you can download a copy. I got it off a website somewhere, but I can't recall where.

There is also some information out there on where to oil and how little oil to use. I've saved that stuff to my C drive as well and if caring for a Glock is new to you, I can pass on what I have.
 
I think that Glock pistols are absolutely beautiful...and my favorites are the second generation guns like the one you have there. :D I really do think that they are beautiful! No shid whatsover.
 
I actually prefere the 2nd gen guns. I hate anything with finger grooves. I have yet to find any that fit my hand. All three of my Glocks are gen 2.

I just bought one and fired a few hundred rounds, and I like it! I was all over the map with it, but that wasn't the guns fault. I'm just learning how to shoot a pistol, the guy I was with was making nice little groups with it.
