Hi all,
With the postal strike/lockout over, I can now look forward to receiving my newest rifle --- an HK SL7 in 7.62x51. The SL7 is a full-stocked carbine version of the HK 770 sporting rifle and uses the same roller delayed blowback action found in HK's military rifles (e.g., HK91). As with the 770, the SL7's receiver is milled rather than stamped and has mounting points for the HK05 quick detach scope mount. The rifle I bought is one of the non-restricted models with 19" barrels that Century imported a while back.
I haven't received the rifle yet, but I thought I'd post a few pics that were sent to me. The rifle is shown with the flush-mounted 3rd magazine, but also comes with a 5/10 rd box magazine. Fortunately, a fellow-CGNer is selling me the HK05 quick-detach mount so I'll be able to scope the rifle and keep the iron sights in place.
The last picture is a stock photograph showing another SL7 rifle with scope mount and 10rd magazine. If you compare the first and last pictures, you can see the slightly longer 19" barrel vs. the standard 17" barrel.
One peculiarity is the non-vented handguard; the info that I've found indicates that the SL6 (5.56) is non-vented while the SL7 is vented (as shown in last picture). I know the providence of the rifle and it is as-received new, so I wonder if all the Century-imported rifles are non-vented.
Does anyone else here have an SL6/SL7, and in particular one of the non-restricted models, and what do you think of it?
