glass vials for pre measured powder charges
and the best Black powder measure ever made imo, The Belding and Mull with a oversized hopper to hold over 1lb of black powder, MVA powder stick very accurate... I used to measure my loads and once it was bang on it would make quick work of loading the glass vials. It has a clamp and you could mount it any place, even take it to the range with your shooting kit.

I finally got a platinum nipple...

Spent 2 weeks in customs for a screw.... cost $43 tax/ duties...
Total about $150cad... from a $59usd nipple...

Okay, I have a couple of big questions here....
After shooting the gun with the new nipple, Im getting some weird results.....
Im cleaning the nipple out and off hand as im taking it out of the gun, carefull as to not loose the thing... I notice there is a huge gaping hole not like how it was when it went in.....

I have maybe 10 rounds, through this.... and although there still looks like the platinum is there... just it was really setback/driven in the base(i guess the top cone if you will) of the nipple... not flush like when new.

I would say with the widening of the flash hole the platinum nipple has failed which is strange given the amount of shots.Looks like it was more soft solder than platinum .I would say when manufactured it was either poorly lined (not fully lined air gap?) or poor materials

Im waiting for Buffalo's reply...

Kinda pissed, caused it took so long to get here... and of course..... it had to come from outside the country....
I know its basically and odd made piece... so there is only going to be so many, equally speaking only so many Whitworth's....
But this one is really odd...


Depending on how the response goes... I had been looking into the spot price of the platinum for the piece I need... but thats another $100 again(at least)....

Just got off the phone from the good people at Buffalo arms. After a conversation on what actually is going on, they said it might have shed the liner.... But part of it is still there....Not what its supposed to be doing at all...
Buddy shoots long range muzzle loaders, so knows that nipple and hasn't had any problems ever... but noted it might happen in theory...


None the less, not to shoot it, and they'll warranty the item. So hopefully in not too long, itll be coming in... Again.

So for the people who do know.... If one were to use Pyrodex in this rifle....(I know....But thems also the times).....

What load amount would I be using......I always forget about the difference of powder type when it comes to this product?

My understanding was that pyrodex is measured the Sheba’s black volume for volume sonifvyou are substitution for 70gr ff you would use the same 70gr measure for the pyrodex. The reason I did not respond earlier is because I have never used pyrodex and am going a poor memory. Thought someone would have chimed in by now

As I recall there is a reduction of pyro to BP in the same measure , as in like 10% less.... but im not sure...

I do not use pyrodex in any rifle, I have used 777 3fg in modern inlines and only goex in my flint and side hammer guns

How long should a drop tube be, long enough to touch the breach or a foot or 2???

take a cleaning rod and slide it in until it bottoms out ,mark it with tape ..pull out and measure length. take two inches off that measurement and that should be a good length.. find a chunk of copper or brass tubing nice and straight...go to value village / thrift store and find your self a brass candle stick holder the trumpet style cut off base and solder it to your tube... You now have a funnel on the end of your drop tube.. go have fun.

okay cool... so it needs to touch the breach, ill look for some copper pipe... I already have a metal funnel.
