Well on the weekend a good friend of mine offered up his 223 to me at a deal I could not turn down. Only having a 6.5 284 that I am feeding to much, I needed a second more efficient gun to shoot. It is as follows

Savage action
Mclennan barrel 1 in 8
Bushnell 4200 6-24
choate varmint stock

My friend told me it was an accurate gun but i had never shot it my self until tonight at the range. The target below is a 10 shot group at 100yard using 80 SMK, not sure of the powder but think he said it was Reloader 15.

Ya i have been reloading for the past year or so. The nice thing about this rifle is all the load testing has already been done and I know what works. I just need to get some dies for the 223 and will be set to go.

looks like you got yourself a shooter! sure is nice to get a gun that you know shoots great eh?

but im sorry i cant stand that stock :( i dont know why but to me they are gawd awful! but you know what they say about opinions! :D swap it into somthing like a McMillan A5 and itd be perfect

looks like a half minute group. with some practice and fine tuning I bet you can cut it in half. careful.... some folks here think shooting at 100 yards is a waste of time. i think you did very well.

I am not a huge fan of shooting at a 100 but the range is on 5 min from my house and the next closest range is 1.5 hours that get you out past 300yards. I plan to go out to our farm and take it out to 400 yard this weekend and see what it dose. I will post the results.

Looking good. I know some will say the stock is ugly, but it's really quite good in terms of ergonomics. The geometry makes it easy to shoot well- especially from a bipod. The Varmint version like yours is less obnoxious than the Sniper version- less aggressive stippling, and better angles in the forend.

Looks like it'll shoot too- 10 rounds into under 1/2 minute is fantastic. Enjoy!

I really like it the paint really makes the stock look better than the original chote black .
Very nice shooting 10 shots in 1/2 a minute is very good you should have no problem competing with that setup.

I am hoping to get down to bordon for some shoots this summer with it. I know that the previous owner use to kick some ass with it. When I get it furture out I will put up more pictures. Think this may be the rig I take down to the moa challenge.
