New to Muzzle Loders.

Hey everyone i am about to buy my self a new savage 10ML II stainless barrel muzzle loader, i have never shot a muzzle loader or know much about them if people could give me some tips and do not's that would be awesome or if any one has experience with this particular rifle I would be interested in what you have to say.
I am also planing on putting a 6-24power Tasco scope on it i figure i only have one shot i should make it precise, any thoughts on that would be nice.

Welcome to the world of muzzleloading. There is already alot of info on this forum for beginners..start with that and then if you have any other specific questions you should be able to get a variety of opinions here.
1. great gun
2. poor choice of scope for a BP hunting rifle. Something like a 3-9 or at the most a 4-12 power would be much more appropriate

I just bought one recently (used actually). I'm shooting 42 gr of SR4759 powder and using Hornady Xtp's in 250 gr. The gun shoots just amazing at 100 yards. Its as good as a typical bolt action centrefire rifle for accuracy. 100% reliable. I'm very pleased with the rifle. I'm using a Leupold 3-9x40 scope on it and I think that's about right for the 25-150 yards I'd be shooting the rifle at. What attracts me to this gun is the low maintenance of smokeless powder. The whole scrubbing cleaning fouling associated with the blackpowder and alternatives is a drag. Nothing I'm happy to do when I get home after an evening of hunting.

You made a Great Choice.They are a GREAT GUN !
Used mine for a couple of years now.
3-9X is plenty of power.
Read the manual,buy Hornady LOW DRAG 250 SST's & SR4759 and you can't go wrong.

First, I will save you two years of time and a lot of money by recommending that you just order up some Barnes Originals semi-soft .458 and some harvester black crush rib sabots. Orange MMPs are good but not as consistent as the crush ribs. Barnes Originals are the best combination of accuracy and performance for this gun.

My dad, my girlfriend and I all have our own 10ML2, we use 60 gr N120, 40 gr 5744 and 68 gr H4198 (worked up starting from 63) respectively.

One thing they don't advertise with these guns is that they are shooting handgun bullets well over their intended velocity with book loads. This means if something walks out in front of you at 10 yards and you hit shoulder, a 250 SST or XTP is going probably going to be more like a grenade then a bullet.
