Hi All,

I'm new to CGN and just getting involved...

I'm looking at getting a Sig P226 22lr as my first range pistol. What's everyone's opinion on the P226 22lr, is it a good place to start? Are parts readily available, what ammo is recommended?

Thanks,
Marc

Each pistol will have it's favourite brand, so I'd try several.
I'm not a SIG fan because of their light weight, but many people like them.
You should also be able to get an X-Change kit for it, to shoot other calibers. Check out Questar.
Others to consider are the Ruger, GSG, and Browning semi's.

I know nothing about the SIG and I'm not an expert but I sure like my Alpha Projects 22 revolver. Wifey's 617 is really nice but $$ and there's only one per family so guess who gets it.

Seriously check out the Alpha just for comparison.

Good luck in your search. Picking the "right" gun is one of life's little pleasures.

Noted after the fact that it's a pistol you want. The revolver advice stands but a Ruger is a go to gun at a good price and the GSG shoots so well in my hand I'm really partial to it. Try them all ..........

I have a Sig 226 which I bought in a 9mm and added a 22lr kit too it, and its rapidly becoming a favorite to get out of the case at the range. Haven't had anything it would not eat with the exception of cci quiets which I didn't expect to work anyways.
The only thing in regards to ammo was 100-200 rds of cci mini-mag before I tried to feed it anything else.

Welcome to CGN!

For a .22 pistol there are so many good ones and some not so good.

I like Ruger, S&W if you can afford it, but there are other good ones from Browning and even Harrington & Richardson or High Standard. Real Colt Woodsman's are very nice, but expensive.

I'd go Ruger.

SIG makes great quality firearms but I have no personal experience with them. YET.

LOL! ;)

Buy a quality used 22 semi automatic pistol and five spare magazines. Add a case of 5000 22 ammo and start shooting.
At the end of the case, you will know what you want to purchase next.

Well, just to let you all know I did end up purchasing a Sig P226 22lr from Canada Ammo and it's been awesome!!! So far I've put 300 rounds thru it of the CCI mini mags, they're alright, I find the wax to be a little heavy.

hello, welcome to the forum! i love my sig 226. i have a 22 kit for it and it is awesome. it is allot lighter and doesn't have a slide hold open. but other than that is great. it eats cci stingers and mini mags all day. 99 percent with remington thunderbolts. winchester m22s not too much
