New to Precision Rifles, what to buy?

thanks for all the advice guys, from the sounds of it I'm going to be looking at a Remington 700 5R milspec in 308. I'm not really worried about the recoil, I've been shooting for years, it's not going to bother me... even though the price might. Two new questions. Do they make a 5R with a detachable mag? And do any of you have any suggestions for glass?

Good choice. There's a store selling them for $1000 right now. Cost less than $1100 shipped.

If the HS stock fits properly you probably won't want to replace it. If not I'm sure it'll sell very easily on the EE.

I opted for a Zeiss Conquest 6-20x 50mm with Rapid Z 1000 reticle for my 5R. It works very well. The crosshair could be a bit thinner but still it's very good.

If I was only going to have only a few rifles, I would have opted for the NF 5-22x. Although the cost is significantly more.
