New to reloading, a few questions!

Hello all, my friend and I are just getting into reloading and I have a few questions.

1. Where/What are the least expensive components for .40 S&W, bulles, casings, primers, powders... It's for holes in paper at 7 yards or less and an M&P .40 I just bought and shot for the first time today!

2. Any tricks for collecting brass to reload? The range I go to is wide open dirt and no one collects there brass, any trick to make it easier?

3. Best place to find the bushings for the dies?

1. Probably cast bullets. Buy precast in bulk or get a lead pot and make your own. I've heard good things about Berry's plated bullets for pistols but haven't tried them myself. You can order them from Budget Shooter Supply in the top ads. For primers whatever you can find for the least money. It varies from place to place and also from time to time. Range collected brass is the cheapest (free!) For powder prices can vary from $22/lbs to $40/lbs based on your location. I've heard of people ordering from Higginsons Powder and if you order 21lbs or more it's free shipping but I can usually get it cheaper from LeBarons locally by the pound.

2. Knee pads and friends. There are brass picker devices but they only work well on hard pack or tarmac.

3. Depends on the brand of press you have. The dies have more or less standard threading but the bushings are generally specific to any one brand of press. You can usually order the bushings from the same places that you buy dies from.
 
For policing my own brass I put out an old sheet on the ground and most of the brass lands on it. Until then you will be scrabbling in the dirt. I started using Berry's Bullets for my 9mm and I like them.
