New to rimfire for hunting

Ok so I was originally going to get a pellet pistol to carry with me while deer and moose hunting in ontario for partrige. However I am thinking that maybe i should pick up a rimfire instead? Any comments on that.... being rimfire or pellet... The second question is what rimfire calibre? I am looking for something cheap under 200 dollars ish. Also want something really small and light. Mabe one of those breakdown ones I can dismantle. I saw one in the cabellas catalouge that everythign breaks down into the stock... anyway. does anyone know what would be the most compact and easily packable rimfire is? I do have my rpal, but unfortunatly unless something has changed your not allowed to use a rimfire pistol outside of a range... :( That would be awesome if I could though.
 
Any thoughts on a Game Getter? By Marbles, I think. No doubt I've spelled/worded some of it wrong. It's a rifle casing that fires a piece of lead shot using a Hilti gun cap. I think I paid $40 for one, ten yrs ago. The kit came with the casing, a few pieces of the lead shot, a sizer for that caliber and probably instructions. The guy a bought it from said it was as loud as clapping your hands together and that you were to aim 3" high. Never tried it as I sold the rifle I bought it for, so I just gave it away.

Edit...I used to have a AR-7 by CharterArms and couldn't hit my big toe with it. The edges on the mags were terrible. Haven't shot a new Henry one
 
Henry mare's leg is more then $200($350) but it's quite compact and with a bit of practice would be ideal for a backup grouse gun.
 
the problem is when deer or moose hunting you can only carry 1 gun in most places a under 500 pellet pistol is ok but thats it cant carry a rimfire rifle or even a above 500 pellet gun(pistol above 500 are restricted and rifles are non restricted so there both firearms)

What if that one gun is a savage 24? Can you still keep both barrels loaded?

I can't believe I'm even asking such dumb questions. I can't believe how absurd some laws are. What's with the one gun law?
 
Really? You can only carry one gun? That's weird. I'll have to look into that. When I am dogging I carry a 12 with rifled slugs and I keep some bird shot shells in hand. But when I am in my stand I carry my 30-06 weatherby, that's when I always see partridge walking around.
 
Afaik, the rule goes you can carry a second gun only if the second gun is also valid for the big game tag you have. So in ontario, you could carry two centerfires. So a rim fire can't be carried. I could carry my shotgun and my rifle. Oddly enough, during the bow season for deer I can carry a 22. As rifles aren't allowed for deer. The whole thing is crazy... I found a few links, but still its whacked. I may have to call the MNR on this one to be sure.
 
My advice is to go buy a crosman 1322. its a 22 pellet pistol that will dispatch bush chickens with ease. Its a pump pistol so no co2 to buy. because you are limited to 500 fps it works better to go with the heaviest projectile possible. If crossman made a 25 in that pistol I would buy that.

i like the marble game getter but i think you have the wrong name. the game getter is a over/under 22lr rifle/410 gauge shotgun and most of it in canada are registered as restricted and cost a lot more then 40$. this is a game getter:

I hunt grouse (not big game) so I've yet to be in your situation. From those I've talked to who ARE in that situation, they favor air pistols. Crossman 2240 (if you can keep the pistol warm-CO2 performance suffers under about 15C) or a 1322 pump-up pistol as mentioned. I've yet to go QUITE far enough north to find dumb enough grouse to get INTO air gun range, so I can't relate. :) I hunted last year with a 12ga., and bought a 20ga. Wingmaster this summer to take-over in that role. Might save me a little more meat.

To your .22 question~I amazed at how quiet CB longs are in a full-length .22lr barrel. If I shot a soup can with a CB long from my Cooey 75 (A $100 gun) the sound of the bullet hitting was louder than the gun's report. They're quiet in this gun too, just not as much. The barrel is about 1/2 the length.

Well, if it were me and using a 22 rimfire for big game fur, I would for sure check
out the greatest one of all.

Get the model with the pull out extendable bawrell for long range.
Bawllistics like no tomorrow........ :D
