New to Rimfires!

Haha, so, the only brand no one likes so far is Mossberg? I think you guys hit all the others already. At the same time, I've been looking up what you suggested, and for what I want, a CZ is out since they seem to run $500 and up.

The old Mossbergs are just too good to justify buying a new one...;)

Ruger 10/22s are hard to beat and in spite of the mod-crazy lot that most Ruger guys are (including me...a little :) ) they're shooters right out of the box. They are econo .22 semis so of course... there have been compromises made by Ruger. That results in the odd stinker, or part that begs to be upgraded. There have been something like 6+ million of these made, so Ruger is doing something right. Do I recommend one? No. :) I'd recommend a bolt-action.

I'm VERY interested in getting my hands on one of these Winchester Wildcats and if I were you, I'd be doing the same. (not the varmint) I haven't shot one, but have heard nothing but glowing reports about them and their accuracy. Savage are shooters, but I'm REALLY not impressed with their bluing, specifically, the rimfires I've seen. If I were looking at a Savage .22 today, for carry in the bush and plinking, it would be the Mark II, FSS Synthetic stock, stainless steel.

Good luck, really interested in knowing what you end up with!

So.. after a pile of searching, I eventually stumbled upon what may become my first .22!

A locally bought Remington Nylon 66, all the reviews I have been able to find say its pretty decent!
