Loves/hates from the experienced crowd? It's the 18.5", bead sight, with and Insight L3 forend.
Should I get a +2 extension or keep her stock? Might look at Cerakote down the road and a folding stock so suggestions abound!

Perhaps you should have posted this in the black&green forum? There is probably more information on magazine extensions and folding stocks in that forum.

By all means extend the tube dude.
The 590A1 is a run n gun model all day long.
High cap all the way.

That gun isn't complete without the SOE Micro Rig.

I am not traditionally what you might call a Mossberg fan, but I went out on a limb and bought a 590A1 and I gotta be honest. I really enjoy the thing. The gun has been reliable. The only problem is the bayonet falls off when you shoot it, on the model I have, and this is quite common from what I've seen on youtube and sites like this.

I personally would run the gun as is with the exception of the bead sight, and address the LOP if it proves too long for you. I would raise the bead to the height of the receiver, or put a big dot bead in its place, or install rifle sights, otherwise you will find the gun shoots high if you have a proper cheek weld. I put a Magpul butt stock on mine, and IMHO, its superior to a pistol grip stock for my purposes, it has a spacer system for correcting the LOP, and I dislike spring loaded stock that supposedly take up recoil like the Knoxx. As for a magazine extension, it depends what you want to use the gun for. A longer magazine makes the gun heavier, it might improve or detract from the gun's balance, but either way it will probably be slower to get on target, and make the gun more fatiguing to carry over several hours in the field. I'd stick with the factory magazine length, and practice loading, unloading, and slug select drills. My 590 is an early 20" model, and after packing it for several hundred miles, I believe the 18" version is better suited to field use.

I'm thinking that he's not hunting much with this gun and if he is, he may be limited by hunting regs to the number of rounds in the gun.

Even if he's not limited by hunting regs, he doesn't NEED TO fill the tube with ammo. The magazine tube extension itself does not add much weight to the gun, even if the extra rounds do.

On the other hand, his body has to carry all the rounds he brought anyway. The only question is where they are kept... on his body or in the gun.

From my own experience I did not find my gun slow to handle even with a full 8 round mag, and I'm not in the best shape. A sling doesn't hurt either.

Thanks for all this! Some stuff to look into. Yeah I won't be going on any extensive hunting trips but the little bit of weight won't be an issue for me regardless. I found a cgner that wants to trade his barrel with the ghost ring sight setup for mine with the bead so I might just jump on that bandwagon after a few practice sessions
