Hi guys, I picked up a Maverick 88 on Saturday and blasted the hell out of it on Monday.

The thing functioned flawlessly and I didn't feel bad about it getting dirty in the bush or anything. Great gun for the money.

I read that some thought the gun was light and didn't handle recoil well, but I didn't have any problems with it at all after going through a box of birdshot, a box of buck shot, and a box of slugs (all 2 3/4"). I also put about 300 rounds through my vz58L that day and my shoulder felt fine when all was said and done.

Anyways, enough with the praise. I wanted to know where you guys get your folding stocks/pistol grips, sights, ETC.

Also, I was looking at the magazine tube and it looks like it won't accept an extension. Are there any alternatives out there or am I stuck with 5 rounds?

ps, I've heard that most stuff out there for the Mossberg 500 will fit the 88, how true is this?

Cheers.

Mossbergs pistol grip is the best for the Maverick and the Mossberg. I takes a bit to get to hit what you aim at but it is not impossible, it carries nice but is not what you want for a day of bird hunting. Mossberg also sells 18 1/2in. barrels for about $100. The Butler Creek folding stock is the easiest of the good stocks to get, I haven't used one on a Mossberg made gun but have them on 2 870's and a Remington 760 pump rifle. Mossberg makes a barrel heat shield, which looks cool and keeps you from burning your hands after firing a lot of rounds. Just remember everything you add to your shotgun usually makes it heavier. If you are at the range ,weight is no problem, but if you are carrying it for bear protection , along with all your other gear, you will only be firing 2 shots at the most , so all you really need to add is a sling and the pistol grip,(if you can hit when it is on), but it does make for a short light gun.

i put a pistol grip on one of my mossberg 500's and love it, all it has is a sling and the PG, i took the heat shield off as i like to keep my shotties simple.

The Mav 88 was my first shotgun as well. I sure had a hoot with it to!! As I understand it is basically a cheapened version of the Moss 500 and have been told the only difference is the mechanics of the forend. Apparently you can order the parts and rectify this yourself. Districorp has a lot of cheaper accessories, but you should check out the Knoxx Spec Ops Folder that from what I've read is a fantastastic folder (65% felt recoil reduction). They have one available listed as a Mossberg 88 which I take to be the Mav. But the kicker is when TSE is going to be getting their new stock in.
