I was in the same position as you a couple of months back - new to shooting but had done some back yard clay shooting. I contacted a local club and the Shooting Secretary was just great. Long story short, I turned up to watch first, then joined the club it was that welcoming. It was a bit daunting at first to shoot 'formally' and to understand what clays were going to fly where and when, but the senior member running the show was just fantastic. I was treated really well. Didn't hit much on the first try, and still not very good after 5 or 6 rounds but I'm sure it'll come and its great fun learning.
If my experience is anything to go by, the senior guys will take you under their wing and you wont look back.
Good luck and hope you have the fun I am having.
