I just bought my first SKS used .. very nice rifle, if as ugly as a red headed step child :)

I was under the impression that the new marstar sks's were Norinco manufactured. But after doing about 6 hours of reading on the web, it seems that the chinese sks's were made by different factories; denoted by the triangle number stamped on the side.

Mine is Factory 26 (what turns out as the most common factory), so my question is, are all these factories Norinco factories, or were they factories operated by the chinese government, and Norinco is only exporting these rifles?

Sorry if this question is rather silly .. but Its all a tiny bit confusing

Gotcha .. I only asked because I do know Norinco does some manufacturing, but it makes sense that they exported these rifles as they did the m14s where they only did the assembly.

So, back to the SkS's, is it the peoples republic of china who 'ownes' these factories? Or is it private businesses that take on government contracts?

You don't really have private business in China...especially when it comes to manufacturing arms. The Chinese gov't owns the factories...they are run by military types who are well connected politically and toe the Party line (in public while profiting from the factories in provate). The arms are distributed around the world by military exporters and dealers and civilian exporters and dealers. Norinco is a civilian exporter...mostly. The exporter is the same idea...military or Party types who are well connected, lining their own pockets by using the "People's" arms factories to make their product and the "People's" gov't (the export company's staff is all gov't employees) to export it. The guy at the assembly line making knockoff Sigs makes less per day than you do per hour.

But I'm an a$$hole because I buy Norinco. Join the club!
