New to the 22LR world, need help

I'll add that by experience, once a raccoon gets to fully grown adult size, they can be very tough to kill.

Squared on head shots are a must do with the 22 LR. That tough little jawbone tends to deflect the lowly rimfire with relative ease.

you need a dog and you are allowed to use lights but not enhancing optics.
you are allowed to use bait as well as long as its not animal based.

i my case, the bait just happens to be deer bait and garbage that is not technically bait, they just seem to find it and think it is.
the dog... well almost all dogs are naturally able to track small game. a bit of class and teaching and a simple sniff test will get you a license. and if you take a good class you can also teach the pooch to track blood, great for large games like deer that tend to take off like mad man once you clip them, and finally cave under 2Km down wind in the tick bush...

Or $175 for a marlin 795 and no need to fix it because its already really accurate.
 
Marlin eh? I personally always will pick the ruger as the magazines are the best and have the most options plus they work in my m77 .... Best combo of bolt semi auto there is.....

Have you owned a Marlin?

One more tidbit of trivia...Marlin outsold Ruger for decades, yet very few are available used. That is a pretty clear indicator.
 
They're 37" long, and weigh 4.5lbs. They're already as small as they need to be if you ask me. Mags? I haven't had a single hang-up on a Marlin 795 mag, and I now own 7 of them.

BTW~if a Ruger 10/22 cost the same amount as a Marlin 795, I'd still take the Marlin. I had to pay a $130 premium (cost of my 10/22 vs. my Marlin) to learn my lesson. Ruger long gone, second Marlin 795 being considered. :)

Have a look at the Remington 597 HB.

I have the AAC model with the 16.5" barrel and love it thus far!

Volquartsen hammer and extractor upgrade will be done this weekend and a MCARBO spring kit has been ordered.

Have a gander at rimfirecentral for more info before your purchase.
