New to the Forums and the Sport

Hey All,

I am new to the forums and the sport of rec shooting. I am very interested in getting involved. I am located in Surrey, BC.

I have no previous shooting experience but I am eager to learn as well as find out more information about getting my PAL.

There seems to be a lots of information regarding getting licensed and the process of joining clubs. If anyone is willing to walk me through the process or point me in the right direction it would be great!

You might also start with a local shooting range. Staff and members are usually more than willing to help you wade through the muddy waters of Kanuckistan's gun laws:p.
 
I say start by looking for an invite by some of the CGN locals for a range trip.

I am certain that someone will step up to help out a newbie.

To get your pal.....
1. See if any of the guys from here will bring you along for a day at the range.
2. Go to the Canadian Firearms Center (CFC) website and start reading.
2 1/2. Join the Canadian Shooting Sports Assn. (CSSA)....not a requirement, but they're our muscle when it comes to the government trying to ban all of our toys.
3. Take the courses...do both the restricted and non-restricted at the same time. Get the books ahead of time and start reading. They're available online in PDF format. (Could somebody please post the link...I've lost it again) It'll make it a little easier doing the course if you're familiar with the material and know the terms.
4. Write both your restricted and non-restricted tests. This is usually done at the end of your course.
5. Send the test result sheets, PAL application, and 80 bucks off to the CFC and wait. It's usually 45 days or so from the time you mail it until the time you get the card back in the mail, although it may take longer.
6. Walk into the gun store with your new PAL and walk out pretty much bankrupt.
7. Financially recover from your shopping trip.
8. Repeat step 6 and 7 over and over and over again !!! LOL!!!!

I did both my restricted and non with Stelios (Stel) Sonofri in Langley.

He has a site stelfirearms or something. He's a gunsmith and also the CORE hunting course instructor. Really thorough and funny too.

btw I am about half way done step 5 of "The BSD Step by Step Guide" but I already have my choices for step 6 picked out !!! Any thoughts on what you'd like to shoot ?
