Hi Everyone,

I am new to the forum. I am really interested in 22 target shooting. I have not yet purchased a rifle, but would be really interested in opinions. Once I get access to the equipment exchange forums, I will be looking in there for something I am sure.

Thanks

Maybe have a gander at them site banners at the top and down the sides.
Some display some goll dang gooder inventory and a price list to make yer
brown eyes blew.

Welcome to the Forum.

Also, welcome to the great Anschutz vs CZ debate.

But before you get bogged down with a whole bunch of advice that may not apply... Maybe refine your definition of "target shooting" - Are your targets going to be pop-tins at 10 yards shooting off-hand, or 1/4" dots at 50 yards off a bench?

It is 50m free standing, no bench. I have shot both cz 455 and 3 different Anschutz rifles at this range, one was a CIL 190, one an older 54 and the last a 1907. All other peoples rifles. Thanks for everyone's input.

Welcome! The Anschutz 64 MSR is specifically designed for offhand shooting (Match Silhouette Repeater) has a great two-stage trigger and will serve you well on the bench if so inclined at some point. The barrel is grooved at the muzzle to mount aperature sights if desired. The weight and design help you hold much more steady than any sporter style rifle. Personally I have no faith in the accuracy of factory stock CZ 455's, take your chances.

Hard to make a suggestion based on that..but..if you have the $, Anschutz is your best bet. However, most guys (like me) chiming in have probably lost count of how many thousands (or 10s of thousands) of rounds of rimfire they've sent down range. So, that's our opinion/perspective. It's allot of $ to spend whether you have that much experience or not, so, I think it's better to get out/get going with a lesser gun if $ requires it...and start building on the experience end of things first. A CZ would serve you very well if that's the case. My first .22 was an Anschutz 1450 and it's one of the few guns I own on the "never sell" list. Nothing THAT special about it, but a nice/light/affordable 22 bolt gun that shoots great offhand. Very decent iron sights too. Had it out on pigeon duty just yesterday!

Truth is, both CZ and Anschutz make great rifles.

As much as possible, try out a few of either, and go with the one that "fits" you best.

I am very partial to the Annie, there is only a 25 dollar difference between the 64mpr and the 1903 new, unless I can of course find a used one. Why the 64mpr over the 1903? The 64 is slightly lighter that the 1903.

The MPR is almost 3 lbs heavier than not a 1903. It's a big heavy rifle for off hand. I think you would be better suited to the 1903, you can also get an accessory plate to level the bottom for bench rest. The factory peeps are another $4-500,though.
You're on the right track buy once cry once and by pass the CZ.
Anschutz is a different league.
