Lots of good advice here. I would start with a 6.5x55 from Tradex. Inexpensive, good chance at getting one in good shape, and probably a quality firearm. 6.5x55 is light recoiling for you and the smaller brother. You can both learn to shoot well with this rifle and it will kill the animals you listed in your original post. Don't get something too big for your first rifle, that is a good way to develop bad habits that will result in a disappointing hunt and a lost or wounded animal. Have fun and be safe.
