Assuming you're talking Norinco...
I suggest replacing the (Norinco) rear sight with a USGI M14 sight.
A USGI M14 stock. If you replace the stock with a USGI M14 stock you'll want to make sure the connector lock is bedded.
A Smith Enterprise (extended) bolt stop is very practical.
And tools. A gas cylinder wrench and castle nut pliers, at least.

If you like wood stocks get a Boyd's M1A stock, if you want to hunt with your M305 they have laminates (not a controlled part). A match recoil spring guide is a good idea, and I'll second the Garand sight (also not a controlled part). Shim the gas system (cheapest way to improve accuracy). Smith stuff is all top shelf. Lot's of ammo.......... lots and lots of ammo.

If you really want to go for it do this.
Shorten barrel to 18.5" and thread it to accept a direct connect Smith Vortex.
If using the the 'rinc barrel, chase the gas lock threads to accept a Sadlack gas system and Navy gas lock front sight. Don't forget to shim it. The gas system is timed.
R33 or Marstar op-rod spring guide
R33 or Smith extended bolt stop/release
USGI op rod (really expensive if you can find one)
TRW USGI bolt (if you don't want your #### to fall off) but 'rinc bolts are good.
Stocks
USGI fiberglass. Different grades. prices range from $50.00 to $200.00 CDN. These stocks are the easyist to work on/and modify.
USGI wood. Lots to choose from. Walnut, birch and southern maple (those are really nice looking). I've seen Ash as well as Pine. They had been quarter sawed from primo no knot logs. $60-$300
Sage and the knock offs - aluminum platforms for ultimate accuracy. Expensive but if you are wanting to shoot sub MOA with the M14 you can't beat it. $900.00 - $1400 cdn (this depends on the configuration of the Sage)

FWIW, I was using a completely stock Norc M14 last week at a DCRA/BCRA event, shooting out to 600 Metres.

I was very happy with the performance, scoring several "V"s (the target goes up to 5, not 10, so the very inner is a V, not an X), and generally keeping them in the 4 and 5 rings. This is at 400, 500, and 600 Metres.
Trick it out if you want to, but don't feel that you HAVE to.
