Recently received an SKS. I was expecting an unissued/unfired but received a refurb (all out of unissued) paid around 280$ everything matches but stock and mag assembly. Definitely been fired but looks to be in decent shape. Can’t say enough about the customer service I received (it was truly awesome). Was I expecting too much? Have always been particular about my firearms but truly beginning to appreciate the SKS and don’t really know what to expect.

If the bussiness indicated it was un-issued and made a mistake for the moment I would suggest contacting the seller before passing verdict in the Court of Public Opinion. It may have been a simple mistake.
If you're and SKS collector, un-issued ones are sought after for the simple fact they are "unissued" and meant to be un-shot and kept as a collectible. They will end up being safe queens. Refurbs are rebuilt to return them to "soldier issue status" so they can be shot.
If you bought an unissued SKS to "shoot" and ended up with a refurb and you want to "collect" an unissued one, call them back and order another one, indicate the error, and maybe they will send you an in-issued one for the same price. (the un-issued ones are more money)

This is not the court of public opinion. I stated clearly that the customer service was awesome and made every effort to help me. I was just wondering what to expect for 280$. I have owned nothing but higher end firearms and don't really know what to expect but trust me I own no safe queens. Firearms are made to be shot not stored.
As you are an owner of higher end rifles you shouldn't expect much from an SKS in terms of accuracy - some are, some aren't. But, much like their big brother AK-47, they are dependable shooters, easy to take apart and clean, and cheap to shoot. And "unissued/unfired" can mean so many things. It might be that the stock was never a base fired from. lol. Hey, for $280 have some fun with it.

They're just plinkers, like an oversized 10/22 minus five rounds. Reasonably accurate, on average 4-5 MOA with the issued sights and military surplus ammo. But they are fun to shoot on the range. If you're used to accurate rifles, and shooting off the bench, the SKS is going to be a different world.
The sks is a very fun rifle,reliable,easy to maintain,fun to shoot but somes are more accurate than the others. The russian are of very good quality. My beat up russian shoot groups about 3.5 inch with surplus ammo, my chinese norinco do about 4-4.5 inch. I have another russian unissued(must has been test fired by the factory but he dont show any trace of wear and no touch up paint) i didn't shoot this one. For 280$ you got an very very good rifle so grab some ammo and enjoy!
