Got 100% on my written exam! Woohoo.. especially since I wrote the test 3 weeks after taking the course. I am amazed I remembered it all, but that speaks well to the caliber of the instructor. He was great. Got a few points taken off on the practical, but I was nervous and just forgot some simple things.

New to the sport. Planning to challenge the hunting license exam. Not sure yet if I can shoot Bambis, but I like to eat them. Hope to find a good mentor.

Welcome to shooting, you'll find many knowledgeable and friendly people here that will help you in your desire to hunt and eat Bambi and Congrats on passing your PAL. Didn't know you can challenge the CORE course. Me and my brother took the CORE and then challenged the PAL and RPAL.

From what my instructor said, if you already have your Hunting Licence then it is the equivalent of the PAL in the eyes of the government.

That is what I was told anyway but I guess it could be different in various provinces and territories.

"...already have your Hunting Licence then it is..." Nope. Two different things. Hunting licences are Provincial. You don't need a PAL to buy or hunt with a bow. The PAL is Federal and is required for to acquire firearms.
If you're in Ontario, you'll have the Outdoors Card(it's a tax that only anglers and hunters have to pay) too. Without it you can't buy a licence/tag.
I don't believe you have to take the Hunter's Safety course, but there's stuff on it and the written test that isn't covered on a PAL course. Hunting laws, wildlife ID, etc.

Well I could be mistaken but I think that is what he said.

Oh well, I went to my RPAL course first and while there I challenged my PAL because the instructor said that it was almost the same info and he also gave us the info on chokes and stuff if we wanted to challenge it, so going that way is also a way to go but as I am not a Bambi murderer ;) it was the best option but I think for anybody else who doesn't have too much knowledge about handguns should take the PAL course first and if the person feels confident enough about the basics then they could try to also challenge the RPAL otherwise just do both and be even wiser. :)

Well food is waiting so I am out of here but have an amazing evening and good luck with everything and don't go crazy like me waiting for the pass or fail papers from the government. :bangHead:
