So my PAL is in the mail and im in the process of buying my first rifle. In terms of cost, and the fact that im still in my beginner stage, im going to purchase the Norinco M305 (m14). My only concern is that i am a lefty and am wondering if anyone ones if its possible, and hoiw much is involved with making it a lefty shooter. Any advice/info would be greatly appreiciated> thanks.

There shouldn't be any particular challanges for you shooting it as a lefty. I am left handed and find the m305 /m14s just fine. The safety is ambidextrous, so is the mag release. About the only thing that isn't is the charging handle, but that isn't operated other than when first closing the bolt on the first round from a fresh magazine.
Much apprecieated! the only reason i was concerned is because i spent the weekend shooting a tavor that was a buddy of mines. because of the bullpup design, the shell casing kept hitting me in the chin while firing. i didnt think i would have the same issue with the m14, but wanted to be sure
The shell casings wind up around 3 feet forward of me and slightly to the right. Shot quite a few rounds through them and never had a shell casing him me in the face or even go down my shirt. Wish I could say that for my AR. Sometimes they land on my head or back of the neck.

I'm a lefty too. I've found that with the charging handle being on the right side it makes it faster to do magazine changes.

From my experience as a right hand shooter with the M14 (shooting it a lot

Ha! Oh you lefties! It's funny you can't get any lefty M14s - that's because there was only one right way of shooting back in the day. If you were a lefty then, it was drilled into you to shoot right. Old school thinking never seizes to amaze me.
Like many have said, you shouldn't have a problem. It ejects cases nicely away from you, no matter which side you shoot.
One thing I want to point out though - I'm not sure how much shooting you've done, but since you said you're new to the sport and are going with a pretty big calibre as your first rifle - make sure when you shoot that you don't flinch. It'll be a natural tendency to flinch when you pull the trigger. Just pay attention to it and try to not develop that habit.
Usually when you start with smaller calibres you slowly build up your.. tollerance (?? I guess..) to the recoil, but starting out with a .308 will almost certainly make you want to flinch. So just pay attention to that and your accuracy will thank you in the long run!

as opposed to what? the M14 is an issued battle rifle - would getting all new tooling for 90% of the rifle just to roll out a second version for the minority of lefties so that they can have a rifle that 'feels just right' in their hands have been a better decision? in this case 'oldskool thinking' trumps our current attitude of pandering to every minority group so they can all feel special.

The m14 is derived from the M1 Garand. The official training film for the M1 Garand (circa WWII) refers to shooting both right and left handed.
and take from me( one that's been through the system) and done the 14 for many years,you don't NEED a "lefty 14"- or garand for that matter- both of these guns are ' NEUTRAL" except forn the charging handle- if you THINK you need a lefty version, you need re-education

Looking at it this way (which I agree is the only logical way to look at it), I agree with you. That was an oversight on my part when writing the post, as I was thinking and referring to the fact that being left handed was frowned upon and even not accepted by society for a long time.

If you don't like peep sights you will have to buy a scope mount adaptor, a decent one is @$100.
Beware, seriously fun rifle, the purchase of a Ruger 10/22 is highly recommended for your wallet. (Bulk ammo buying a must!)
