New to the SVT-40. Are the rumors true about Heavy ball ammo being bad for it?

So I shot some 147 light ball out of it this weekend and it seemed to work fine. But I must say that I am kinda unimpressed with the rifle, and thinking it's not for me. I generally prefer me SKS's over the SVT-40 and the Mosin as well. Is there something I am missing with this gun? Everyone seems to love them but I have had a lackluster experience so far.

The SVT is one of my favourites. I like the stock contour, slimness, weight, balance, and low recoil (for a full size 54r cartridge). I like my SKS and MN's as well. Are you unimpressed with the mechanicals or is it that the rifle just doesn't 'fit' you? I can understand the 'fit' issue - some rifles I like the way they shoulder, some not.

It must be the way it fits me. I love the look of it, and the cartridge but when I shoot it, I get the "meh" experience I guess. I want to like it, but I get more out of semi auto from the SKS and more from the 7.62X54r from the Mosin.
