I just got my first 10/22 last week, in the form of a Krinker Plinker, courtesy of the EE...

This is my first 10/22... And I have a couple questions..

What does changing the buffer do? Does it actually make any difference? I've been looking online at parts, and am already thinking of what I can do to make my Krinker better... I had it out yesterday, dumped 3 mags (150 rounds) through it, and only had 2 FTF's... I think it was because I was using hollow points...

Anyways, I see some of the common parts are buffers, cocking handles, the bolt hold open mod, etc...

As I said, I'm a complete newb w/ the 10/22... I think I would like a different cocking handle on the krinker... Would make it a bit easy to grab...

Is there any mods that are a definate must have for the 10/22?

I know there are lots of posts here about the 10/22, and I've read the sticky... But what I'm after is as I said, the absolute must haves/do's to my 10/22...

I've also never done anything compared to polishing a trigger group, but is this something I should think about?

Anyways, thanks for any info...

IS.

Changing the buffer will stop the metal on metal contact.I would also replace the extractor with a Volquartsen one.

^ what he said. The advice on the extended mag release should be taken with this caution:
if you're going to carry the rifle one handed (just in front of the trigger guard) when hunting, be aware that you may inadvertently release the mag. I speak from experience.

If you're only going to use the rifle at the range then there should be no issue and it really does make releasing the mags much easier.

If you want an extended mag release, I have one (VQ). PM me for details.

The upgrades that Marshall mentioned are well worth doing. For a modest amount of money - you get considerable more performance. You might want to try and locate some Tactical Inc mags, I've heard they're quite rare - but they are about the best 10/22 mags in existance.
I hope you enjoy your Krinker, I have one as well and love it. Post some pics if you get a chance.
