I went turkey hunting last season for the the first open season in BC. Also my very first time. I saw two toms but could not call them into range. Just wondering what is the best way to locate turkeys when hunting in a new area. I know to look for signs but is there a call to use to aid you. Also how do you locate a roost. Are there certain types of trees they prefer to roost here in BC. The season starts here in 2 weeks so I'm looking forward to go hunting for turkey and yotes, maybe even a bear.

Get out before sunrise and listen for the gobbles , but don't go too far in so you won't get busted by roosting turkey.
Next morning ( I'll be out there about an hour before sunrise) you'll know basically where they are . Set up a deke about 25 steps out and wait for a gobble or legal shooting time ,
Start with quiet yelps and clucks , then crank up the volume . If you have a tom gobbling and you think he's coming , sit still , get ready and don't forget to breath...
Practice your calls and shoot your shotgun from a position you'll be hunting in !
Here's a good link for turkey calls...
