Hey everyone, first time posting on here. Originally from vancouver island, but am in vancouver for school. I've always taken my chucker in the bush with friends to shoot trap/skeet, but here I think I may be more restricted to shooting at a club while I'm in vancouver. Have been a member at victoria fish and game for couple years but only shot rifles never shotguns at a range.

Down to business, I'm looking to shoot some clays. Just wondering if anyone would be up for showing me the ropes at a range in the lower mainland? Never taken a shotgun to a range before, don't know what protocols are and such.

Also, couple questions (more if I can't find someone to show me) when going to a range, I've got my own shotgun, plenty of target load ammo, and clays.
Assuming I use my own gun, do ranges make you buy their ammo or can you use whatever you like?
Do they let you use your own clays or buy them there?

Any help is appreciated, glad to have found this forum.

Welcome, At most clubs you can bring your own ammo. Most clubs require shot to be 7.5 or smaller. Most clubs charge approximately $6 for a round of 25 targets. This covers the cost of the targets. Most clubs charge a day fee for non-members, to cover insurance (our club charges $10). There are clubs in Ricmond, Langley, Mission and Pitt Meadows (just naming a few). I shoot at Pitt Meadows and our club is open on Sundays. We shoot skeet from 10-noon and we shoot trap from noon till we get bored or run out of shells.

I just shot my first day of Trap at the Vancouver Gun Club. Showed up with my gun in the trunk, walked up to the front desk and was treated EXTREMELY well. A very nice man named Dennis showed me the ropes and coached me a bit, got me bustin clays as well as could be expected for shooting the first time. I think I was around 15-17/25, but we weren't keeping score. Didn't ask for anything for his time, and said he offers some coaching in exchange for a donation to the youth shooting program.

I think it's 6.50 for a round of targets and you can bring your own shells, under 7.5. I was shooting 9's I got at Italian sporting goods for 58$/250.

Signed up for a years membership and have the impression that it's a very welcoming and professional club.

Thanks a ton for your input guys. Really appreciate it. I am definitely going to the Vancouver Gun Club this weekend or the next for sure!

VGC is awesome. They have everything youd ever want regarding shotguns. Ive only had my pal for 2 months and I go to VGC 3 days a week! Mostly skeet, 5 stand, sporting clays. Im in Mexico right now in vgc withdrawal haha

I'm planning on going on wed! Thanks for the input/advice. Luckily my school only goes until 1:30pm weekdays. Figure I should have tons of time there.

Had one other question before I head there, I may be bringing a friend along who has never shot before. Is there any area that I can show someone the ropes and not shoot clays at VGC? Just to get them used to shooting a shotgun before actually shooting clays.

I'm sure you can ask at the front desk. I think they usually assign you to a squad and have you shoot that way, with a RO pulling the targets, but you can ask.
