New toy...10mm

So... holy crap, new sniper rifle, 10mm, grenade launcher. You looking for more kids? Im only 20, I can learn to call you dad! :D

don't ask to see pics of his blk. rifles ...you may never get over it!:p

yeah but wasnt it really the FBI that killed off the 10mm when they basically abandoned it?

HK needs a 10mm pistol, but itll never happen. LIked it when they had the MP5 in 10mm for special people.

They downloaded the 10mm so small people could handle the recoil, hence the 40S&W or "10mm short".

yeah its sort of odd that they killed it, then some Federal orgs have now gone to .357 Sig.

Either way I hope 10mm is around for awhile. I saw a fair bit of brass a few times ago at the range. Not very common to see it though. I havent fired a 10 in at least a decade.

I tried RL1's Glock in 10mm once, it was a snappy little pistol. Expensive ammo for just putting holes in paper though. It would make a sweet carry gun, lots of stopping power I would think.

Seeing how they hunt deer with 10mm in the US, I would think so! :runaway:

yeah on some US guns sites its recommend by some as the ultimate backwoods carry pistol, for small bears and mountain lions..when loaded super hot..

I have to agree with Strangeday, the 10mm is the most awsome defensive cartridge out there. I had the oportunity to shoot a Novak Custom Delta last year, it was awesome.

With my "hot" handloads, in my Witness(4.5 inch barrel) I was getting 1230 fps with a 200 gr XTP which equates to 670 ft/lbs.

DoubleTap factory ammo is getting around 1250 fps with a Factory Glock 20 which is about 691 ft/lbs.

For those of you who are interested the 357 mag Doubletap loads only slightly exceed these energy numbers making the 10mm just as good as if not better than the 357. Also noting that 10mm is doing it with a 200 gr versus a 158 or 125 gr bullet out of the 357. Plus in U.S.A you can get 15+1 capacity in Glock 20 or Witness which makes for a heck of alot of firepower in a semi-auto pistol.

I WISH we were allowed to go deer hunting with it...I am sure it would be more than adequate.

Here is McNett's penetration data...

Here are official gelatin results for all of the DoubleTap loads!
All of these tests were done using 10% ballistic gelatin provided by Vyse gelatin using all FBI protocols and 4 layers of denim and two layers of light cotton T-shirt in front of the gelatin.

I just ordered 400 200gr FNGC's hard cast bullets from Beartooth Bullets last week.

These are the bullets that Mike McNett of Double Tap uses for his 200gr WFN cast bullets @ 1300fps. I am already getting 1280fps with 200gr XTP's so should be able to get the same 1300fps very easily in my 5" KKM barreled G20.

"200gr WFN Beartooth

This is the load that you have been hearing about! This hardcast Wide Flat Nose gas - checked bullet will not deform on impact, and will create a large deep wound channel. Excellent for hunting or woods protection!

Caliber : 10mm

Bullet : 200gr WFN Beartooth

Ballistics : 1300fps/ 750 ft./lbs. - Glock 20"

200gr XTP with 9.6grs IMR800X with CCI 350 primers.

Use extreme caution when working with IMR800X powder due to powder measurers not being able to meter it accurately.

When I am loading top pressure/velocity 10mm loads I use my single stage press and weigh every powder charge individualy, I also work up extremely slowly.

So be carefull...

I followed Camp's(and others advice) 800X seems to be one of the better powders for the 10mm.

I use the same exact load in my 4.5 inch Witness but only get 1230 fps out of it...

Mike McNett has some extreme data with 10gr of 800X...

There is TONNE of loading info HERE...

USE CAUTION...

LOTS of loads exceeding published data...
