New toy - HK MR556. Anyone else have experience with these?

Arrived today. I'd like to top it with an Elcan OS4 or an ACOG (TA31 or 11), but will have to save up some cash first. Not fond of the Burris on it, but it'll do for now. Looking forward to getting it to the range. First impressions - a bit front heavy, but very, very nice. Feels very solid. Like the backup sights. Trigger is nice. :)

Nice setup, from the pic I would say 16.5 barrel. I would run that with 1-4 or 1-6 S&B with bipod and shoot some 62gr or 77gr to get the max out of that rifle. The trigger gets better as you use it. You will be surprised how accurate that rifle is as you get use to it.
 
Thanks :) Already have an AR with a Colt Canada IUR set up for long-range shooting, and most of what I do is under 100 yards, so I'm going to set the optic up accordingly. Good to know I can expect decent accuracy. Anyone else have experience with these rifles?

Yes.

Agreed, it is very accurate. In my opinion the best upgrade you can do is put in a Giessele trigger. Really you don't need to mess with it beyond that as far as getting more performance is concerned. The rest is just personal preference such as whatever stock you want. A battery assist device is really useful as well, but again, that is a personal thing.

You need the specific HK Giessele trigger. A bit more money and less common but worth the $$$.

It look like your optic is straddling the removable rail. It's a good idea to clean carbon off the piston tip so to keep from having to re-zero each time you may want to move the optic back. At some point you'll need to start checking piston ring wear by the vertical drop test, but you have many thousands of rounds to go through first.

Thanks for the tips, and yes, it is straddling the rail. I'm not happy with this optic and mount for this gun, for that reason among others - not a terrible optic, but I do want something different :) May swap the buttstock for something else, also, and am leaning toward a different brake to replace the flash hider. The trigger? May do what you suggest. Haven't had it to the range yet, so...
 
I would put 500rds through the gun first on that trigger, remember it gets better as you go at first you won't like it.

I don't think you need to do anything about the trigger or the stock. The only annoying things are the two push pins. It took a bit of effort to swap them out for the regular ones
 
Love to see a #5Rd. or #10Rd. grouping comparison between the CC IUR and the HK MR556 @100M if you fever get the chance. Sweet HK btw and the Elcan OS4 would likely be a very nice set-up indeed.

Ok, turns out the Burris works quite well on the Tavor, so I think the Elcan may have found a permanent new home. Which is great, as I can't afford another optic any time soon! I'll probably run it as shown below, for the forseeable future.







 
Looks nice. I would take the iron sights off though. Keep them in your pack. I would recommend a vickers padded sling. And a detachable Surefire mini light. Possible Larue mount to take off when not needed. Good stuff. She is a beauty.
