Just picked this up recently. Remington Sendero 700 in caliber 300 RUM. Mounted on top is a Vortex Viper 6-24x50. Taking it to the range this weekend to see just how accurate it is right out of the box. Will be feeding it Remington Premier Scirocco Power Level III Ammunition 180 grain over 200 - 500 yards. Yes, no muzzle brake ... for now :p ... may post results afterwards. May have to start reloading.

Thanks Grouse River for awesome service.

Congrats it is beatifull rifle.
Only thing never mind levels or ballistic charts from magazines, start reloading and using this rifle and caliber to its full capacity.
Wish you many succesfull long range shots with it.

The "huge" scope is for the long range shooting that I hope to do. Perhaps a novice move but oh well, will enjoy.

However, went out to the range the first time today with the Remington Sendero. Brought some of my other rifles and handguns before moving to the big toys left for last. At the 50/100/200 yard range broke out the Mossberg Maverick 270, Savage 300 Win Mag, Browning A-Bolt 375 H&H and the new Remington (plus a Norinco AR-15 clone). What a fun that Norinco is. Put about 4,000 rounds down its throat so far including 300 today as fast as we could swap mags and just keeps on ticking.

The Browning was bought from a CNGer who professed it to be new and yes it appeared to be so. Cycling through a few warm up rounds with the Mossberg and Savage I moved on to the Browning (which I had yet to shoot) and the Sendero. I must say that I am impressed with both the funtionality and accuracy of the "low-budget" Mossberg/Savage combos. Cycled cleanly meaning no problems in loading 3 in the mag and then rotating through with the bolt. The Mossberg in particular is silky smooth ... who would have guessed.

The Browning was open sights (no scope) and functioned perfectly. Put through 21 rounds at 50/100 and finally 200 yards. With open sights the 200 yards was a bit of a prayer (remember I am a novice). Nice groupings for open sights and offhand stance.

Moved onto the 300 RUM. Put 2 rounds into the magazine and then rammed a cartridge home. However, I could not swing the bolt handle down into locked position. It stayed "frozen" in the "lock the bolt" position. Cycling back the bolt, the cartridge remained in the breech and picked up the second round. Good thing I wasn't testing this on a hunt with a charging grizzly. Opened the floor-plate and removed both cartidges (the first one popped out). Put in 3 cartridges (Remington flavour) and same thing - hard time to lock the bolt handle. Eventually managed to do it. Cycling to the second round still problems with ramming/locking bolt. Eventually managed to fire 9 rounds down range but the cycling was NOT SMOOTH at all and had to fight each round. A bit of a disappointment when I have a $3,000+ rifle being out-performed (ease-of-use-wise) by Mossberg and Savage "cheapies". For the record, was using Remington Premier Scirocco Bonded Power Level III 180 gr loads - so factory loaded.

Anyway, with the loading problems wasn't really concerned about sighting in so can't post pics of the target. By the way, the Savage 300 Win Mag is less than MOA at 100 yards right out of the box which is amazing for a "cheap" rifle.

Going to try the 300 RUM again next weekend but I fear it will be going to Chris at Weber & Makin to "clean up" the action and lighten the trigger to a crips, clean break. On a side note, the kick of the 300 RUM was less than the 375 H&H Browning although that might be me simply "feeling" it differently. Both were hoots to shoot, problems and all, and when Chris fixes the 300 RUM will be back to the range and see what the Vortex scope on the 700 can really do.

On a side note, must be my lucky day as I purchased a Marlin .45/70 and before I even fired it, it is at Chris' shop getting the cycling cleaned up. Jammed twice in a row cycling 5 rounds through it and the last time the lever jammed open trying to load the first round. All in all, I am getting excited about range time although the wife is starting to get suspicious of all the packages arriving on a weekly basis.

For the record, the Mossberg I have shot before but the Savage 300 Win Mag, Browning 375 H&H and 300 RUM were all "virgins" until today. Will not be putting a muzzle brake on the 300 RUM, just fine the way it is.

I'd be taking the RUM back to where I bought it, not getting a gunsmith to clean it up.

Once it is up and running properly, you should really enjoy it.

Muzzle break not needed IMO.

Savages in 300 win mag that shoot under 1" are kind of standard fare, fortunately. :)

Forgive me, I'm somewhat new to rifles, but $500 for rings and bases???

I understand your 300RUM has more kick then my .30-06 but is it really necessary to spend so much?

I use the standard Winchester Integrated Mounts.... http://www.winchesterguns.com/products/catalog/detail.asp?family=026C&mid=621151923

Would I benefit from a more expensive set up?

It's a joke. :)

And no, I am sure those mounts you are using are just fine. Lots of folks use Talley Lightweights, and those are generally about $50.

$3,000 was an off-hand comment but I can post the exact price paid here from Grouse River. Second time I bought a "brand-new" rifle from a vendor (both from Grouse River). All my other guns (handguns and long guns) have been either here or off-site second hand.

Vortec Scope $999.99 plus the grab and steal tax
Sendero Rifle $1279.99 plus the usual pound of flesh paid to Harper
Rings $79.99 ... have a set that look like they have been hammer-forged by Thor that would hold a Bazooka mounted on top, but I thought to give these try first.

So I apologize for the slight exaggeration. Still over $2,500. Will take it back to Grouse River to see what they say. I have heard good things about them and I am sure they will try to help. In defense of Grouse River, they don't make the guns they just sell them. I just happened to buy 2 from them with issues (Sendero 700 and Marlin 45/70).

To Donny's post, no I didn't clean the chamber but have since. I did inspect the rifle thoroughly as did the people at Grouse River and once the scope was mounted it looked like it could drive tacks at 500 yards. Chamber looked clean as a whistle before and still does now that I have cleaned it.

To Tomjones, I picked up the 375 H&H and the 300 RUM after going through 2 boxes of 270 Win and 1 box of 300 Win Mag. The 375 H&H and 300 RUM kick hard but I felt I could shoot them all day long if I needed to. Put almost a box of Federal 375 H&H 270 grain Powershok through the Browning before moving onto the 300 RUM. They hit but not that hard.

To Northman999, you are probably correct and I was excited at just hitting the backstop at 100 yards never mind the target .... just kidding. I am new at this and was happy to shoot well. Was able to put a quarter over the holes altough I do admit to wishing I could stretch the quarter about 1 mm! :)

Contacted Remington and here is what they said ... my original email to them below. Again not trying to cause a stir as I will get this resolved with a gunsmith if needed but simply stating some facts. Silver Lining?? -- Now anyone that buys a Remington has some one they can contact in Canada to b1tch at if the need arises.

Hello

I am not complaining about a rifle I wish to send back. The one below is simply one that I purchased new and needs to go to a gunsmith. The sad thing is having spent over $1200 for the rifle and about the same on a scope, I am having issues with basic functionality of the rifle – which is being out-performed by a Mossberg and Savage “bargain basement” flavour. No need for a response but more of an FYI on getting it right.

I wouldn't take your gun to Weber and Makin.. They are SOOOOOO overpriced on everything they have and do, and ####ty service to boot. Worth the 30 min drive to Del Selin in Vernon to get a WAY better deal and great customer service. (that is if you do end up taking it to a gunsmith). Every time ive been to Weber it has been horrible customer service and there items are about 1.5-2x the price as every other store.

Commenting about Harper: No.1, if Harper and the Conservatives had not been elected 8 years ago (or whatever it was), the Paul Martin Lie-berals had vowed to abolish/ban handguns in Canada. Do not forget that!
Harper's Gov't did abolish the awful Lie-beral Long-Gun Registry. Do not forget that!
Harper's Gov't reduced the GST. You live in B.C. and pay 7% PST tax rate, yet whine about what Ottawa gets!? That's laughable! When you're talking about you pound of flesh, you really should be looking at B.C. Gov't.

If you hate Harper so much, vote in Justin Trudeau, or the douche Muclair.

Second: You bought modern Remingtons and expected quality!? Do not get fooled by the fancy exterior...
