Well, my initial impressions of this gun are very positive - fit and finish seem good, and it appears to be a very solid chunk of metal!

Pic with my Vz compact and Tavor for size comparison :)

I'll hopefully have it out this weekend to see how it performs

my advise for a new Micro owner is double up on the ear protection and make sure any spectators you may have with you stand behind the 4 and 8 o'clock positions, otherwise you will find out pretty quick if they are wearing a hair piece or not ;)

Ok, quick range report :)

I took it to the range this evening.

Function

I put 210 rounds through it on gas setting 4, as recommended in the manual to break it in. I had one malfunction, which was magazine-related: one of the mags, though it looks identical to the others, only seems to want to hold 9 rounds, and didn't seem to want to seat properly at first. After a few times in the gun, it functioned like the others.

I then put another 70 rounds through it on gas setting 3, with no malfunctions.

I then put another 140 rounds through it on gas setting 2, with no malfunctions.

Accuracy

With my Mepro optic, I had a nice cowitness with the supplied MI flip-up iron sights. I set the optic to match the iron sights. I didn't shoot it from the bench - all shots were standing unsupported. Still, at 50 yards I was consistently hitting chunks of wood and clay pigeons on the berm, and putting most of my rounds into life-sized bunny silhouette targets. So, it appears to be at least a 'minute of bunny' gun at 50.

Overall impressions

At this barrel length, the gun seems to be very well balanced. It was noticeably heavier than my 10.5" CSA, but the weight was still reasonable.

The brake was awesome: the concussion, noise, and fireballs were almost as good as my 7.5" CSA. Felt recoil was minimal, as was barrel movement. The brake appeared at first to be mounted improperly, but I then noticed that it appears to be asymmetrical, with the ports looking different. I assume this is to counter the spin of the round?

The safety wasn't as nice as those on the ARs I've owned - it was stiffer than I'm used to.

I really liked the non-reciprocating charging handle, and the location of the bolt catch/bolt release.

The FAST stock was nice, but the cheek piece has only two positions - a third, higher, position would be useful with the optic I'm running.

I put 420 rounds through it relatively quickly, and noticed the railed forend became quite hot. I'll be mounting a VFG to it before I take it out again!

Overall, in my opinion it is a very well-designed rifle. I'm very pleased with this gun, so far - it appears to be a keeper :)

Edited to add: I just noticed this morning that the stock has come a bit loose from the receiver. Time to break out the Loctite!! lol

Wow! And I thought my 8" .300 BLK AR was small.
This thing and your VZ Compact are like Micro-PDW's.
Sweet

There are 2 more holes in the stock mount, take stock off there are 2 more holes to let you raise or lower the whole stock assembly.

Very nice! I've always thought about buying one (have the 7" CSA for my shorty fix).

My question... if you could keep only one... XCR or CSA?

Based on my experience so far? The XCR. Don't get me wrong, I love my micro CSA, but it's never been 100% reliable... it occasionally has failures to feed, which while rare, do annoy me. On the upside, though, the CSA gas system is cleaner than the XCR, and it doesn't require Loctite!!

Cool, thanks!!! I'll take a look & figure out how to do that :)

Hello Everyone,
Just a quick note to new XCR Owners. While I know the owners manual stipulates running these at gas setting 4 for 200 hundred rounds of initial break in period, I strongly disagree with that. Your are unnecessarily causing excess wear on some of the recoil components and the system itself. Adjustable gas regulating systems are designed to be used at a setting that will allow the rifle to operate reliably without undue strain. When the systems gets dirty and clogged then it is time to go to the next setting. That is my opinion and experience has borne this out.
Cheers,
Wolfgang.

Just finished stripping the gun down and cleaning it. Everything I've heard about these guns needing Loctite is true... sort of. After 400ish rounds, the stock bolt and the ejection port buffer bolt were both loose. Everything else seems to be solid.

Hbean, thanks for the suggestion on raising the stock assembly - I now have a perfect cheekweld with the Mepro optic :)

Wolfgang, thanks for the input. I just finished cleaning the gun, and the inside of the upper receiver was surprisingly filthy for a piston gun - I suspect as a result of allowing so much gas in on setting 4. I'm running it on setting 2 now, and I'll try it on 1 when I next hit the range.

I just crank down on all the bolts after my first range trip, Have my Micro since Wolverine first brought them into Canada, gone through three Abbotsford Fish and Game open house at averaging 600-800 rounds in a 3-4 hour period since and all other range trips in between, haven't had anything come loose yet, even without a drop of loctite.

hitting paper plates and clays at 50-75 m pretty consistently as well, by no means it is a sub MOA gun, but sure is a lot fun to convert surplus ammo to scrap metal. I sure wish I can just throw it in my backpack and go camping with it :(

Yeah.... mine too. Since I'm not going to war with it and it;s cheap, I live with, but yeah...
