Picked myself up a 10/22 today, stuck a Red Dot sight on it and had a blast at the range. I didn't even have it out the door before the modding bug hit me...........ordered a laminated thumbhole stock, getting pricing on a heavy barrel. Jeez, I wondered what you all were thinking modding a perfectly fine rifle, but now I understand. What a blast to shoot! I picked up the all weather carbine. Fired off about 200 rounds getting it sighted in and playing. I wanted to shoot more, but my fingers were getting sore loading. Who makes a good high capacity magazine for the Ruger?

Butler creek. I have 4 of their 25 round (smoke) "hot lips". Never had a problem with them. I know a lot of people will say "STEEL LIPS!!!!" but I have seen a lot of people having a hell of a time with them at the range. Plus the hot lips are cheaper. :D

Contact wilwagspal (dont know if I spelled that right) about GM barrels. Great guy to deal with, and GM barrels with shoot great. Look at getting a VQ, or some other target hammer as well. They will lower trigger pull buy 60% or more :)

Although I cringe when I think about how much mine cost to build, I'm pretty happy with the performance. Enjoy your addiction.;) I'm going to try to mod a factory stock to something along the lines of an Anshutz (sp?) style stock next. Not too much left to do on mine except the bolt, which I'll send away in the winter.

Had it back out at the range today, fired a couple hundred rounds again, got her dialed in pretty good. Stupid me forgot my camera, a black bear came through the range while I was shooting. I guess that will teach me. Red Dot sight is working well, but I think once I get the new stock and barrell I will be upgrading to a good 4X scope. Here's a before pic.

Here's a couple targets from today, range was roughly 35 yards, getting decent groups with CCI Blazer ammo, glad cause its pretty cheap at twenty bucks for 500 rounds. Glad Stoney Creek came to town, cause Canadian Tire has zip for .22 ammo and Wal-Mart is almost as bad.

Really happy I bought the 10/22, was gonna get a Mossberg Plinkster till I saw them putting a thumbhole stock on another customer's 10/22, That made up my mind. Thinking about trying to paint my stock in some sort of camo pattern, but I am gonna wait till the new one gets here in case I make a terrible mess of the factory stock.

That IMHO, is very good for a stock 10/22 and a red dot. You mentioned putting a good 4x scope on it. Depending on what you are going to be doing with it, I would get a higher magnification to put it at its full potential, and a good scope :)

Trust us who have been there done that and are still doing it..... you will want a high powered scope for your 10/22 when you start tinkering and shooting it seriously. I have a 8.5-25X50mm with AO scope on top of my rig and would not want anything less. Just this week I shot a fly that had landed on my target (no BS) @ 50yards, shooting perfect smilly faces, splitting playing cards (queen of hearts type;)), and shooting through your buddies .30cal bullet holes are just made easy with a high powered scope.

install the right parts, get your hands on quality ammo, a high powered scope and you should be shooting at empty .22 cassings @ 50 yards in no time.
