New Trap gun

What sould CB have said? That it should have been deactivated and made into a lamp stand?
Didn't want to be too critical because the I know the guys at the store. They want to sell the gun. Besides there is probably someone who loves that model and given how heavy the thing is anyone who shoots one regularly probably isn't someone I want to get on the wrong side of.;)

BUy a Ljutic:D Although I may have to agree with Claybuster about the Guerini. I picked one up at the last turkey shoot I was at and was impressed with the two barrel set for the price.

Trap Gun

Stay away from the winchester selects. The guys that had( take note on HAD) them at our trap club had some problems with them. I would look no further than a browning XT with adjustable comb. The guys are right on the weight of the gun. There a heavy shotgun. But light weight, means more recoil which could result in a flinch.
You should go down to your trap club and try some different shotguns.Thats what i did here. I like the expensive shotguns but they don't shoot any better than the Browning XT, BT-99, or XT gold i have. Take a look a the beretta combo single/double. Very nice and under $4500.00. This might be my next shotgun.
In a nutshell we all like different makes, but make sure the shotgun fits you.
Keep your head down and dust them all.

Actualy after doing a lot of research and money shufling, I have decided to keep my 3200 Rem. To me it handles better than any of the Brownings or Beretta's I tried. So I found one of these to play with. http://

Actually it's a 32" barrel but balances nicely. Hopefully it's a lot softer on my bad rotator cup. :)

If that's a problem, invest in an AL391 Recoil Reducer (Beretta part E00267)
It's basically a "drop-in" in the buttstock ... most 391 - 12ga. target guns are pre-drilled to accept them . Around $ 75. Weighs 8-1/2 oz.

Thanks BB you wouldn't have a link for that would you? :)

I've seen these units and always wanted to try one. My only concern is that extra half-pound in the butt is going to definitely move the gun's balance point rearward. The option then would be to put on a weighted forend cap but then you are probably nearing the 9lb. mark.

Hey, Win/64:
Are you not the guy who said to me "Buy a 391 instead of an o/u for recoil reasons? I would be willing to bet you haven't found a quality o/u that fit you properly. Because with a good one recoil is not an issue." ??

Hmmmm?? and now you are buying a 391 and snooping around for a recoil reducer?:p

Win/64:
Good choice, but take care of that rotator and if it gets really bad, have it fixed. I did, and even though the post surgery was really gruesome and seemed to last forever, I now wish that I had it done years ago.:)

Happy New year to you guys:D

Sorry I can't talk now I am eating my words. I found to replace what I have now in an 0/U would be too costly. The Brownings are too barrel heavy to me and the Beretta's I have tried don't fit me well. The semi seemed to be a good alternative. Happy New Year to you Covey Ridge and all the rest of the guy's on this site. Cheers

No need to eat your words. But you might need sunglasses because you've seen the light. ;)

Happy New Year to one and all.

I don't find the 391 "recoil" to be an issue either, but then, I don't have a bad shoulder ( despite lots of years of both hockey & lacrosse ) The recoil reducer fits between the drop/cast-off shim and the receiver, (in most models, a pre-drilled recess specifically for it - and it installs properly in only one direction) so it is well forward in the buttstock. At 8 oz, and in this location, it moves the balance point only slightly to the rear, which with most 30" Beretta's, only moves it (the balance point) to where I'd rather have it ...
midway between the action release button and the forend. Most standard 391 - 30" guns seem to balance ahead of that ... feeling a little muzzle heavy for my liking. And it does, IMHO, seem in function and in added weight, to take away even more of the 391's already light recoil.

I have used a few Franchi trap guns over the years, they fit better than the Brownings and the Berettas and were pretty much the same price as the 3200. If you can find one in an Olympic Grade give it a try. They also make a dandy combo set, with either an overbarrel single or an underbarrel single, with adjustable ramps and all. Or at least they used to!
