New ultrasound owner

I accidentally put primed 30-06 shells in my new ultrasound unit. Put in warm water,dish soap and some vinegar. Will the primers still be Ok when they dry?The cases came pretty clean.

Call it a loss and deprime them and junk the primers. Nickle and dimes isn't worth missing a shot or having it malfunction when you're hunting. IMO move on and learn from past mistakes.

Yep, that's the best solution. Only a few cases. No big loss. Thanks

If your ultra sonic cleaner is working as it should, there should be no priming compound left in the primers.

Last time I primed up for an ultrasound with loaded primers, brass balls lost half their weight; maybe a digit or 2 over, came out with 21 digits, fingers toes and an extra brain cell between it’s legs........ dish soap water and vinegar, your good to go they told me.....

You’d be surprised what goes pop. Chamber and fire the primers off post results. Neutralizing primer compound is tricky lol

Ive hear that putting them in a container of oil neutralizes them.

I'd be worried about them going pop when you want them to and then still worried they will go pop when you deprime them and REALLY don't want them to.


Personally I would take them to a safe place and run them through the chamber and fire them off before loading them up or depriming them.

And bring a push rod if you go this route.

Well... considering that ultrasonic cleaners will essentially dissolve some synthetic jewellery, and will clear organic compounds out of very tiny spaces... the priming compound SHOULD all be in solution in your discarded water-vinegar-soap mixture. Better safe than sorry, though, chamber them, hit them with a firing pin, and then decap them. In case any do go bang, eyes and ears like at the range.

I would fire all the primers (or try to) in my rifle while at my loading bench. I would be curious to see if they fire. Modern primers are well sealed and tend to resist water and oil quite well.

Then I would deprime and make ammo that I could rely on.

They will be fine once they dry. Primers are REALLY hard to kill

Bake them in the Kitchen oven at 450 degrees for at least 8 hrs to make sure they are completely dry first before loading !
