After chasing the rifle all over the country via Canada post tracking, the rifle finally arrived yesterday! A new Vanguard S2 in 300 WM.

First observations quickly revealed this sure isn't a Mark V!! Although the stock seems quite useable, and with med rings holding a Bushnell elite the cheek weld and sight picture is close to perfect. Stock feels good in the hands with good grip and a useable palm swell. Recoil pad is definitely useable and seems to absorb recoil quite handily!

Three position safety, very nice but not very smooth, bolt release sure could be better, drop plate works well and seems quite secure as well.

The rifle feeds and extracts very very smoothly!

A quick session out back shows promise with Hornady Superformace factory rolled grouping about an inch, was hoping for better but some hand loads with partitions or accubonds are next and I hope to improve upon that.

I picked one up in .223 , stainless . Been about five months and still haven't had time to shoot it . Really liked the trigger and the stock. Hope its a shooter .
 
I have two S2 Vanguards. A 30-06 with a wood stock, and a 338 Win Mag with a Synthetic stock.
I am very happy with both these rifles. They both shoot sub-moa with handloads they like.
Solid rifles, with little to find fault, considering the price.

Funny thing is I never hear you when you are out shooting. Seems everyone knows when I am out playing! Good thing we live where not only it is allowed, but in a neighborhood where no one complains....well, almost no one, but he can't use scared horses anymore to whine, lol.
 
I fondled my next-new-rifle yesterday at Wholesale Sports - a stainless/synthetic S2 chambered for 257 Weatherby. I was very impressed by the fit and finish, especially the metalwork - it was very clean, no galling or machine marks whatsoever, all at a very hard to beat price of $749. Throw a matte Leupold 6x32 on that and have a very nice deer laser.

I only test fire for function at my house, all range work I go to the Sportmen's Club.

Like I said to the guy, I would have paid to see him get bucked off his horse!:)
 
Anybody have any leads on anywhere these are in stock in the Vancouver area? Would love to play with one of these so I can make a decision against the Tikka T3, Winchester 70, Remington 700, or Savage weather warrior...

Any personal opinions on how this rifle stacks up would be much appreciated!
 
I bought a S1 Sporter in 308 a couple of years ago. Loved it. When the S2's came out I got my hands on one in 223 as quick as I could. It is an awesome rifle for the money. Next two on the list are 25-06 and something a bit harder hitting then 308. 7mm Rem mag maybe.

radnark a phone call to WholeSaleSports should get you in the ball park.
That or the shop on Rupert St. in Vancouver. Can't use the Italians name as they are not site sponsors ;)
Depending on caliber I would only place it second to a Remington 700 ( a real 700 action and not the SPS )
The trigger may and did in my case get some use getting to it.
Upon re-reading your post it would also appear I slighted the win 70 action, but that is not the case.
The Wby. Vanguards are less money and wouldnt be in the same catagory in my humble opinion or experience.

The trigger is decent on the S2, but too much creep, and over travel for my taste, have not tried to adjust it as it is just a hunting rifle and it is quite crisp.

So far, of all the rifles I bought new and haven't modified, the browning x-bolt has the best trigger I have seen on a rifle that cost less than $1,200.
 
Cabela's has the Series 2 with a synthetic stock and a Simmons 3.5-10x40 on sale in their flyer for $639.99. Only catch is it's only available in .243 and .300 Wby. Mag

How can a trigger be crisp and have any creep let alone too much and over travel to boot? I'm confused by this.....
