New Versions of Barnes online data!

Mono metal bullets are pretty popular and there seems to be more and more reloading threads about whether you can use the same data as other bullets. I don't actually have an opinion on that. But, I always check the bullet maker's own data.

I was double checking a few loads lately when I noticed that there was NEW data for my 7-08. The differences are huge v.9 has loads that are hotter by up to 1.4 whole grains and velocities up to 70fps faster than v6. Stated barrel is the same. 10 powders listed, average gain is 1.1grs and 65fps. That's a big deal for 7-08 in my experience. Previously no loads were listed that made 2900 fps, now half the loads exceed that.

Maybe Barnes switched pressure testing equipment or switched their test barrels, , but whatever they did it's a good idea to download the newest data

I have previously emailed Barnes and they sent me a much more comprehensive load table than I could download.

I thought loading data only went down because of lawyers?

I don't know; I've always found Barnes bullets to be unpredictable as to what powder charge they would take and I'm not seeing anything different now. My .338 and .300 Win loads are locked firmly at Barnes data's minimums; the speed is there and if I tried I the maximums I'd looking for the pieces. The 80 grain TTSX 7828 load that I developed for the .257 'Bee when there wasn't any published data is bang on to where they quit, and the load for the 100 grain with IMR 4831 is 4 grains below what I've been using for years.

Bottom line is you better be prepared to work up from the bottom and watch your pressure and velocities. Those that claim the data is light, right or heavy are likely all correct for their rifle; but don't expect it to be some universal principal.
