After scraping my nickels together I got my VZ-58. Took it home and field stripped it. I cleaned the bore / chamber, bolt carrier slides, and gas system (including gas block) of excess lube.
When I took it out this afternoon, it was stove piping 4/5 rounds. By the end of the session it was failing 1/5 times. I used Czech surplus and Hornady.

I'm going to check the gas block hole when I get home tonight.

Was I supposed to expect a break-in period?
Are lacquered rounds a no-go in this gun?
I thought these guns have a reputation for being "aggressive" on extraction, my cases are landing 1/2 meter away. Is this typical?

What year is stamped on it??

Only issues I have experienced with surplus lacquer ammo is the chamber needs to be scrubbed good so the casing won't stick in it.

Are you having issues FT FIRE or FT FEED?

Failure to extract seems to be the issue. Feeds and fires awesome. I'll scrub the ***t out of the chamber tonight too.

Mine needed a break in period. It was the ammo. Pretty much the same story. Surplus gave me problems untill I powered through about 400-500 rounds and it broke in and worked flawless after. I believe mine was also a 2013.

So I scrubbed the chamber and let it dry. I was just at the range and ran around 200 rds of Czech through it. I had stovepipes or had to beat the bolt open for about half. I expected better for a $1000 gun.

I'm at the point where either I send it back or buy a chamber reamer.

Send it back. I shot the crap out of my CSA V Z58 when I got it. No problems at all. It seems yours has issues. I wouldn't be trying to fix a new $1000 gun myself if it has warranty !

I had an issue with mine jamming and cases getting stuck, all happened with that cheap Chinese ammunition. After shooting you really have to clean your chamber from the lacquer or the red sealant they use. When I used other ammo I have no issues.

Same...I have never had a single failure (7.62**) in probably 3-400 rounds/2:years. I would return it. I shoot cheap surplus, but hunt with soft points as well.
I put a wire folder on it and it's my thick brush deer rifle.

For $1000, you shouldn't have this issue.

Well, I'm definitely one of the "take a cold chisel to it" crew, however, I just want a rifle that had all the features that I have spent a lot of time goofing off with sks' to get, and have some accuracy out of the box.

So, by and by, the gun really needed a break-in. I dug out 200rds of czech, warmed it up with some brass cased stuff, and when i was done with all that I cleaned the chamber with an oversized brass brush. It seems to have cured the sticking with lacquered cases.

It's a fun little gun, I don't entirely trust it yet but I don't think I have to send it back. Time will tell whether it was worth the price.

Good to hear it sorted out, I was more specifically speaking about the guys that filed their feed ramps on the t97 when mine was having the same issues and broke in on its own
