New Walnut Stock on my M305

I am concerned about the durability and stain/dirt resistance of the straight BLO finish. After doing some reading on wookworking forums, I am considering a "wipe on varnish" style finish of 2 coats of 50% satin varnish and 50% mineral spirits to seal and provide a tougher finish for the stock. I'd like to keep the look as much as possible, but also think that some protection is probably a good idea.

Any thoughts or input?

thanks in advance,

Grey

Very nice! Had a aluminum McMillan on mine but got rid of it. I think the M1A looks more at home in the original walnut stock.

Negitive!
Find tung oil. That stuff will never flake off and it will not change depending on elevation or humidty as much as any other wood finishing poducts except for the wood plastic resin compounds.
