New Website...

I really liked the old site's "Sig Price List". There were no pictures but at least I could see everything that "might" be availiable. The new Sig page is nice but I kept clicking on the pic's and there was no info about the pistol. I was all excited to see the 229 DAK only to find that it was not really availiable.

Like we said... there are a lot more product codes to enter still...

The various SIG items that we/you can order will be added soon... Instead of showing as "x" In Stock they will show that they are "30 to 60 Day Delivery" or something to that effect depending on the suppliers status. You will be able to place the order, with 25% deposit and balance when item arrives and is ready to ship/transfer.

I liked the old one better too. Much easier to navigate.. this looks like a demo for the shopping software !

this one has a whole bunch of cool guns that point to No products available

I like it. It just takes getting used to though.
As for the scrolling. Time to get a monitor with a 16:9 aspect ratio :D. It's great.

I like the fact that it shows what is in stock and gives you a number. I think that is an excellent feature. I have been telling people (anyone that will listen :p) for years that the two most important things in a e-commerce website where you are selling products are:

(1) a picture of everything in inventory (not a stock photo)
(2) a way of telling what is in stock and how much of it is in stock

I commend you guys for going a long, long way toward reaching these two ideals. I know it is a ton of work... but you can really distance yourself from the competition if you put the effort in. I can see some business owners, if they have a "bricks and mortar" store, and that is where 90+ % of their business is from, thinking... "blah, a website is a sideshow anyway. As long as people roughly know what we can bring in, that is good enough". But no... no... no. that is completely backwards of what customers want. I know how to find a manufacturers website on my own, and so does every single person on CGN. We want to see the one we might be buying... and are there two of them or 20. Seriously that can make a big difference in the decision to buy, and when.

I am not bagging on you guys for linking to the SIG website or anything like that. I would do that too in your shoes, but the ideal should be a pic of your inventory, with your price and the number of them that you have. Your new website is going in that direction, and I like it.

What you can get from manufacturer X.... that is a separate issue in my mind. Lists with expected prices (on arrival) and links to the manufacturer's website... that kind of thing is good too. I would almost be inclined to do it both ways. Have inventory the way your new site is.... but also have a list of what you can get, the way the old SIG, GLOCK, etc. sections were. I think having long lists of "out of stock" products mixed in with the in-stock stuff is tiring for the user.

Anyway... cudos... I think you are going in the right direction!

i agree with ghostie, and i think the same way as you ghostie with actual pictures, and whats in and how many. like you said it makes a difference in split decisions when theres 1 left , or if theres 20
but the thing i actually liked about the old glock and sigs list was ... i knew what you had and what you were willing to bring in, also roughly what it was going to cost.

and i think its very important these days to have a website that actually works. like for instance compare yours to italian sporting goods,, im a local vancouverite. and i check out the locals all the time, as well as the bigger guys on cgn. and if you look at italian i dont think its been updated since 1999, and doesnt have anything on it. and to be honest i rarely go there because everytime i do . its the same old ####. and even lever arms has a better site than italian. which is silly. put a decent website up . let people know whats new and waht you have. maybe you have something unique compared to the competition. (ie frontier, questar, wolverine) most people shop around now , and most penny pinch. especially in these financial times.

keep it up, good job questar.

Like we said on the site, we're not finished yet. Lots more stuff to enter still and it's going to take some time.

The main hurdle was to get our inventory items up on the site... even then it changes so much that every few days there's more new items arriving (about 10 more going in tomorrow or day after).

We're also planning to add in all of the SIG models that we will be able to custom order... they will not show inventory quantity but instead will allow you to place custom order and will give you an estimated delivery time and show what deposit is require with order. These items will fill in many of those "empty" spots on the SIG "tree".

On sold out items... if they are normally inventory then they'll stay Sold Out until the next shipment arrives... if they are not being re-stocked then they'll be converted to "custom order" items and you'll be able to place a custom order for them.

All of this was "custom code" that had to be created since we could find any off the shelf software that does this sort of thing.

We're working hard at this and will take everyone's comments and evaluate them as time allows. Some we will be able to respond to... I suspect some we won't. Unfortunately we can't always please everyone and can't always meet everyone's expectations... but we're trying.

For those who say the site is too complicated... we've tried to give people several ways of finding things. If you're looking to quickly find a specific item then the search box (upper right area) is the easiest... type in a couple of keywords and you'll usually get a very short list of items that meet your criteria... it's a great way to quickly find an item or items that meet your need.

The old site seemed "easier" because you never really saw what we had only a few items that we were able to highlight for you. Most people didn't realize that we had between 500 and 1,000 skews at any time in stock and well over 1,000 that we took orders on. The new site will allow people access to that and more as we continue to add products.

You'll find over the next few months the site will be "filled in" with a lot more info (on each product) and with more products. Keep your suggestions and comments coming... we don't promise to implement them all but we are listening :)

Thanks

Mark

PS... everyone else working on the site thank you too :)

Don't know what it is, but it's screwed up on Chrome. Looks good on IE and Firefox though.

The traffic from Chrome users is probably not enough to worry about it, but may be in the future.

Anyone with Safari check it out yet?

I'm told that this has been fixed (can't verify it personally)... let us know if it works now (Chrome and Safari users)...

Looks good.

$30 AR carry handles? I've been looking for two and just paid $95 for one in the EE.

EDIT: When are you excepting more of LMT-L7D1 in stock?

They aren't the best on the market by any means, but they make a nice backup unit... at the end of the day you can't get much for $30 and we're simply clearing out the last few that we have.

I've used them... for plinking at the range they're good... for long distance accurate shooting I'd spend the money and go with a high quality sight (RRA's unit is very good). Choice is yours but it's hard to go wrong at this price.

Oh yeah...

For those that are wondering about the $99,999.00 prices :)

It's something that I used to laugh at when I saw it on many of the US company sites... they would do it when they had an item that was sold out and either not expected to be available for a while or was simply of unknown status.

On items that we either don't expect to see again (but we're still hoping and trying to get more of)... instead of killing the skew or blanking it out and having people ask us daily if we can get them... we decided to leave it there and show the $99,999 price tag. If anyone wants one badly enough to pay that kind of money then I'll try really hard to find you one :onCrack:

It's a bit of humour... not a mistake... don't expect anyone to mortgage the house to pay that price... but if you decide to do so, we'll see if we can find you one ;)

DPMS mags?
I could use a couple more :D

Me too. I'd take 100 pieces if I could find them anywhere... DPMS wont' even guess at delivery dates (they are now quoting as much as "2 years" on some items... I kid you not). Every US Distributor is sold out.

It's getting like that on almost everything right now.

It's nuts... and getting worse.
