New.. Why is M1 SO much more than M14 etc?

There is a new Springfield on the EE for $1300. I blew my gun load for this year or else I would get it. I say forget the surplus fabricated with old junk. For a little more, get the new one.

M1s are a rare exemption from the 5 round rule, due to their use of a "clip" instead of a magazine, which apparently can't be altered reliably to only hold 5 rounds.

Clips can be easily modded to hold any number of rounds from 1 to 7. There are commercial 2 and 5 round clips available from many sources.

I have heard rumours that Norinco is going to produce their own version of the M1 Garand. (this from a reputable MilSurp dealer).
If they can do as well as they have with their M14, I'd definetely be interested!
