New Win. 70 Featherweight (pics)

I have been looking at the epps site and don't see any more 2008 M70. Have any one come across the new M70 with any other dealers. I am looking for one in 22-250 or .243.
 
Are we getting alot of these in Canada yet? Have you guys shot these rifles yet enough to report on the accuracy? I will likely be picking up a M70 featherweight in 30-06 for my big game rifle. Just gorgeous!!!

Are these the "deluxe" models they have? There seems to be some confusion here between what models are $800, the guys that posted pics in this thread sure look like they got deluxe models.

That is a feather weight (posted pics ) they are between $8-900.00. The super grade will be @ $1000 maybe more. Supposedly the 2008s have fancier wood and they do have "limited edition" on the floor plate. I have a FW and the wood is pretty but very soft. Also I hear the bolt is pressed on so it may be wise to have it soldered on by a Gun smith or just use your buddies arc welder!

That for sure is a beauty. What scares me a bit is those pencil thin barrels in an '06 though. I'd feel more comfy with one in a .25 cal. But still, I can see improvements and quality. Good luck with your new gun, and you've got me interested for sure. :)
 
My only minor dissapointment with the new 70's is that they've dulled the finish a bit fron the beauty polished bluing of previous models; although I belive the Super Grade continues to sport the high gloss polished metalwork... Otherwise, truly the return of "The Rifleman's Rifle"
 
I'll pick a few nits.

The checkering is ghastly. Ugly pattern and almost looks pressed. The recoil pad doesn't look well fit either. And is the bolt handle grey or is it just the photo?

But on the plus side the metal finish looks pretty decent for a factory rifle, though it seems that most factory rifles have gone to that horrid "matte" finish to avoid the expense of actually polishing the metal properly. The wood, however, is outstanding especially given the low price.
 
I played with one today.

the stock is gorgeous for a sub $1000 rifle. I love the checkering pattern and the schnable (sp?) forend. classy.

blueing leans toward the matte. a disapointment.

fantastic crisp trigger

smoooooooth action. everything looks well finnished.

I'd buy one.
 
Was looking at a new FW at LeBarons last night. Apart from the fact it was 300 WSM, I would of went home with it had it been in .308. I'm impressed with the wood and smooth action and I don't get impressed easily with the way firearms are produced these days.

Way to go Winchester! You have my interest and I'm a dedicated Rem 700 lover. The FW could be my main hunting rifle soon.
 
I bought a special edition 2008 FeatherWeight Deluxe in 270 win.

It shoots like it looks. ;)

Smallest groups is with 54 grains of IMR4831 under a 150 Hornady SP for three shots at .451"

I did only two tests to date since it's wintertime here with almost 4 feet of snow.

In all the groups I shot:

-6 went under 1";

-7 went between 1 and 1.5" with most in the 1.1-1.2 range;

-1 went over 1.5";

This was while load development so with untuned handloads.

I'm 100% satisfied with this rifle.
