I am looking at the new 71 in a 348. Any feed back or comments. its either new or go old. 1935 and newer. Its hard to find a dealer that can give you any feedback. whats with that. if you sell it , you should be able to give me some insight...no. Its kind of scary to put out the cash.. try it out.. and its ####. especially the way the 1970's 80's and 90 winchester levers were. now there 3x the money. Are they that much better?? some one tell me the down low on these new puppies. I love the pre 64's are these that quality or what... Thanks for letting me vent

The new Winchesters by Miroku are outstanding quality, as good and possibly even better that the originals. No collector value of coarse, but a finely made firearm none the less. I haven't seen the 71 but I do own a 92 in 44 and have handled and shot both the 86 and 95.
I have 2 originals so no interest in the Miroku 71.

I agree with c-fbmi. I've owned two of the Miroku-built Winchesters and both of them would be of excellent quality. They cannot be compared with the older post-64 versions. These new ones are Japanese built with very high quality control, fit and finish. They are also stronger than the originals (although I prefer originals myself, for nostalgic reasons).

I can't say anything about the new 71, but I have a few new 92's and they are way smoother than my pre 64 94.
So nice that I just ordered a new 73.

I have a new 71 and an original and I think the new one is better than original based on fit and finish. The action is smooth like butter. I haven't fired it yet, though.

I see the new 71's have the extra idiot switch on the tang... apparently we've become much more stupid since 1937 and can't be trusted with just a hammer and half-####.

I'm not a huge fan of levers but I picked up a new 1895 in 30/40 off the EE here. Nice rifle.

Somehow I picked up a 1915 vintage 1895 carbine in 30/40 (30 US or 30 Army?) and made the mistake of dropping by the old man's house to show him.
I guess I owned it for a couple of hours anyway. ;)

I've got piles of 348 brass and ammo I've been stockpiling for a while now and hope to run into a new 71 Deluxe someday soon.

Anybody know if Winchester is doing a run of .348 ammunition to go with the reissue of the Model 71?

They were. Whether they still are or not I couldn't say. However, a while back I picked up two boxes, loaded with their old 200gr Silvertips, for my original Winchester model 71 deluxe.

I have an 'adequate' supply of brass and a variety of bullets but when I saw this loaded stuff available, I picked up a couple of boxes. I did inquire about just getting some of the old Winchester tip bullets to reload but was informed Winchester was only providing loaded ammo with them.

If I remember correctly, I purchased them from a guy on site, todbartell (Mark) at Omineca Source For Sports in Vanderhoof B.C. Perhaps send him a PM and see if they're still available.

My main or primary go to bullet for reloads is the Hornady 200gr FP Interlock. I also have a supply of Barnes Originals in both 220gr and 250gr. In addition, for variety and a bit of plinking, I get a couple of cast bullets from a friend locally. One, a 230gr GC and the other, 262gr GC.

One would certainly hope so.....it'd be like selling a nice car without a gas tank....nice to look at, but doesn't do anything

John, thanks alot for the information. I emailed Epps and they said Winchester isn't making them this year and they will make them in 3-4 years. Not sure how accurate that is. Wholesale Sports said 8-10 weeks but again...it's Wholesale Sports, and they are $72 per box. I am thinking about an original production 71 and just wanted to get some information on factory ammunition availability. I would probably be better off buying ammo privately if it ever comes up. I'm sure if Winchester did a run of .348 earlier this year or late last year it probably got snapped up pretty quickly. Like I said, I am in the market for one of these guns but the ammo availability has me a little hesitant.

They also re-introduced their 1885 and 1886 in 45-90 and don't load ammo for it. That's also silly. I still bought one though.

I also saw a few boxes at ganions in oshawa ontario. They teased me with a new browning 71 high grade in the box for 2400....i waited two weeks to decide to get it and yup its gone im changing my name to depressed. anyone want to cheer me up and sell there old 71 to me
