I am thinking of trying to make my first stock.CAn anyone suggest some pointers.Easy wood to work with?Tools needed?Any help appreciated.Glen

Start with a block of wood and cut away everything that doesn't look like a gun:D On a serious note I would experiment with some cheaper wood before carving into an expensive piece of walnut.

pick something simple then. A small router, dremel, various different hand and stand up sanders, scrapers, bits, sanding pads, inletting black and then the joy of finishing it. That doesn't count the tooling to do the recoil pad, set the sling swivels, forened, or esteucheon caps. Have you thought about the wood finish or checkering. If it sounds like a lot of work that is because it is.

I realize it will be a lot of work, but if you can tell me where to get a new butt stock for a 1890's quackenbush,I won't have to do it.
