You're welcome. Your description of the wear is good but pictures would be better. Looking forward to seeing them.

well i just got back from the range. put about 160 rounds through her. My bolt catch has a significant amount of wear on it now. ill take a photo tomorrow and through it up here. But i dont think its the actual bolt catch giving me problems. So after the last round of a mag ill reload, throw the mag back in and the bolt catch will be sold (this was happening about 30percent of the time). I have to get two thumbs on it to release it. The strange part is once the bolt catch is free the bolt is still stuck in the rear position. I can watch the bolt catch inside the receiver move freely up and down but theres no actual contact on the bolt to the bolt catch. So id give the receiver a swift smack with my palm or slid the charging handle back firmly and then the bolt would fly back to it forward position........ In my mind the bolt assembly is being lodged somewhere in the back part of the receiver or stuck in that bolt buffer in the rear. So thats where im at...........

What gas setting?

Is your buffer still intact?

Can we get a couple pics of your bolt carrier?

J

bremmy, here's a couple of pics of the same areas on my rifle, which has about 3k through it. Your wear does seem excessive when compared to mine. There are no burrs and hardly even any marks on the bolt catch. I use grease on it, including on the bolt lug. How have you lubed yours?

I've been on setting 2 or 1, depending on whether I'm using Czech or Chinese ball, pretty much right from the start. It might have 20 rounds through it on settings 3 and 4.

I received my XCR-L in 7.62x39 from Wolverine on Thursday and I took it out with me on Sunday.

Regarding break-in, Rev. 1 of the Operator's Manual, page 16, says "The '4' setting is the highest setting. Ite allows the largest amount of gas to impinge upon the Piston. It should be used when breaking in the Rifle. It may take as many as 40 rounds for the Rifle to be broken in."

So that's what I did - 40 rounds on 4, 10 rounds on 1, then another 30 on 2. Unfortunately, that's all I had time for. It seems like setting 2 was perfect.

Well back from the range again. 150 rounds through her and this is what i got. bolt still has the occasional stuck in rear position thing happening and i think i know why now. also curious to know if everyone else is using brass coated surplus ammo, laquer coated or actual brass casings?????? and as for lube im using G96 which works amazing as a cleaner and lube for all my other guns.

The grooves in the oprod are 15-20 thou deep.

the wear on my bolt catch continues and now has more wear on the top edge, top surface and the burrs continue to deepen.
so i think the problem lies in these grove being worn into my oprod. I think they're literally diging themselves into my bolt carrier and seizing the bolt in the rear position....... when stuck back it only takes a swift smack on the receiver the get the bolt back into the forward position.

If the piston is stuck in the bolt carrier because of the burrs, I can't see any way that would cause the whole assembly to hang up to the rear.

You've got some significant issues on the go. Give Wolverine a call.

I had the same problem with my xcr in 223 bolt would lock back after mag emptied out and get stuck there I used to hit the receiver with my palm to get the bolt to drop. After a few emails and pictures sent to wolverine I sent them my rifle and they figured its the bolt causing the problems they put a new bolt in it. Just going to be picking it up tomorrow from the post office.

I have had mine for almost a year now I was pretty slow in dealing with it and was hoping not to have to send out my rifle.
I broke in my rifle on gas setting 4 and shredded my buffer. then didn't lock tight my bolt catch and it kept coming loose so it failed at the same time as the buffer. After I got replacement parts for that is when I noticed the bolt locking and with the various things I tried it got less frequent. My ejector was a little crooked and had a small bur on it from the bolt hitting it. I filled it off and levelled my ejector and my bolt seemed to lock way less frequently after that. Also noticed that the neck on my brass was not all kinked in after I adjusted the ejector. I am hoping to try and get it sighted in this weekend and for some smooth running now. Good luck with yours

Did anyone have a issue with there bolt catch? I put 100 rounds of 7.62X39 thru her and the bolt catch was starting to get tough to actuate. 40 rounds later the bolt catch was stuck and the bolt was also stuck in the open position. So i took it all apart and was amazed at the amount of wear on the bolt catch and on one spot of the bolt. ( ill take photos and post them when i figure out how to do so). After a good cleaning and a heavy lube on the points that i was concerned about it started to function better. I put another 80 rounds thru her and called her quits for he day. Just curious if any one else had this issue as well?

I have this issue as well and am trying to figure it out as I type this... havent searched the massive XCR FAQ thread yet.

My problem occurs when shooting, the bolt sometimes catches and 'sticks' in the rear. I attempt to engage the bolt catch but this does nothing and feels loose (like it's not catching anything). To free the bolt, I have to give the rifle a whack just above the safety area. This usually loosens it up.

I have good amount of lube on it, but this occurs only after about 3-400 rounds. I'll take a look at my bolt/bolt catch this weekend and look for wear. Bremmy, keep us in the loop man on what you find out. Just so happens I may have to follow the same route as you.
