This is a request for a range report for the new XCR-L Keymod & Light Barrel. Multiple pics, honest accuracy report, and any other findings. I can't afford my own to test right now, and I'm itching to know how they shoot.

I'm looking for reports on weight comparisons to the older gen, and accuracy.

No accuracy report since I just fondled one on the shelf, but:

They feel like half the size and half the weight of the old units. I wish they'd existed years ago! The barrel is thin profile up to the bad block and heavy profile from there back to the chamber.

They're very slick. They'd take up much less safe space, much less forward weight. I'm anxious to lift a key mod XCR-M. That could be the last straw that makes me buy one

I don't have any experience with black rifles but I do have to say initially I'm impressed. My keymod weighs 7.5ibs. I didn't actually measure the barrel but I would say 1/2" after the gas block. Can someone give me a reference of what they class as the heavy profile?

Heavy barrel is substantially thicker at the muzzle device.. do a quick google image search and you'll see. The heavy barrel is almost as thick as the muzzle device whereas the light one is noticeably thinner.

Glad to hear that, worth fondling one then. I need to get rid of my heavy profile xcr ... just can't stand the forward weight.

I picked one up last week and had it at the range on Tue. I didn't have an optic but with irons I managed a fist sized group with Federal 55g. Today I picked up a Leupold AR 3-9x40 at Tactical Products and hope to take this combo out next Tue. I'll try some 60gr V-Max over 24.5gr of Varget, that seems to be the most accurate recipe in my other rifles. Stay tuned.
PS. The rifle runs like a charm right out of the box, I had it set to gas setting 2 and it was cycling fine and there wasn't any trigger slap that I have experienced with my older XCR.

Okay, thanks for the response, how do you feel the weight or specifically the forward weight compares?

Well that is not very good.

IMO its combat accurate, its not a precision tack driver or a high end stainless steel barrel AR type rifle.
Its a piston rifle with a long Op Rod so this can also cause mechanical vibration etc...

Maybe with some good hand loads, long range scope, and a really good marksman can achieve 1" it's possible...

I think there is a detailed report on CGN a few years back, some guy named "Brombi or Brobi?" put up a ton of details and pics.

Not sure why people scoff at 2-4 MOA accuracy from a battle rifle. All these accuracy reports are from benchrest shooting positions... do you buy a black rifle to shoot it from a bench? If so, then I suppose a 3-4MOA result would make the gun way less appealing than an accurized AR15 shooting 1-1.5 MOA. But what happens when you stand up to shoot off-hand, or are on the move? Does the 1 MOA rifle maintain the same difference in accuracy? I'd wager a bet against it... the results probably start looking much much more similar.

Just a random thought from someone who never shoots from a bench...
