Here she be. Marlin XT 17VSL:rockOn: Tossed on an old Red Field 3x9 for now but planning on getting some type of scope designed for the 17. I guess they test fire it at the factory? Looks like it's fired a round. Haven't sighted it in yet but so far I'm liking it. Even the old lady didn't seem too unimpressed!

Nice rifle! What's the quality of Marlin's these days?
I have an older 981T purchased a few years ago to get into the scene(to see if I liked bolts). Materials, fit and finish was ok for a sub $175 rifle but the micro-groove barrel made it so accurate (even with a cheap 3x-9 scope) that I still enjoy shooting it.
Let use know how it shoots...

The first 17 I handled was a wood stocked Savage (can't recall model) which I was close to getting until I picked up the Marlin. The wood stock on the Savage was really crappy. I thought it was a synthetic painted brown even on close inspection, but the dealer assured me it was wood. The Savage seems to have a good reputation as a tack driver so the looks could've been fixed with a Boyd's stock. I really like the trigger on the Marlin, I guess it's a copy of the accutrigger. Stainless finish & markings/numbers look good. The bolt seems a little floppy when fully open though. I'll get some target pics tomorrow.

Nice rifle I have a marlin 917vs and it is a tack driver. I tell u grouse around my area really hate it lol. Have fun with your sweet new marlin.
