I just bought a yugo m-48 from marstar. When I opened it up, there is no markings on the rounded surface infront of the bolt like the picture on marstar showed. It seems to be an m-48 (lack of any stamped parts) but im not sure. Did I really get an M-48? or is it one of those egyptian ones that were made without markings? your talkin to a mauser newbee here so all the help is appreciated.
thanks
simon

As long as its the same quality as the normal m-48 it doesnt bother me at all...heck might even be kinda nice if I decide to make a custom gun after i shoot this barrel out!

Egypt didn't make them anyways, sold to them by Yugoslavia. I'd assume anything without their crest on it was intended for foreign sales.

The Egyption M48's were, if I recall, all M48A and M48B models, not M48's. Also, they all had The egyption crest on them.

M48 pattern mausers from Yugoslavia went all over the middle east. Syria and Iraq were also receipients of large volumes of these back before the AK47 became ubiquitous in the region.

the rifle you received appears to be an M48BO. BO stands for "bez oznake" which is Yugo for "without markings". They were made specifically for export to countries Yugoslavia did not want to have any official affiliation with, though it seems many (like your rifle) never left Yugoslavia before being surplused.

Marstar usually sells the BO rifles for more money (they are a less common variant), so if you got it for the regular M48 pricing you likely did OK :)

Hope that helps.

Thanks for clearing that up...I was worried that I got a lesser quality m-48A for the price of a real m-48.
