Pooring down with rain here today, so I dug out the bits, to put together a good old kiwi compact rifle, last time home the finlight, got a chop and thread to 17", and a set of Burris mounts and rings were found, after much searching threw boxes of gera shipped back from Canada in 2015, topped off with a Z3 duplex in 3x10x42, and the DPT magnum suppressor, for my .264 win and 7x57, had a spare rear bushing reamed out, to fit the Sako barrel,
Stainless first baffle to prolong life.
Sako, 7-08 suppressed compact, light handy and quite, perfect for bush hunting, and capable of across gulley shots to 300M or more.
Going to sight it in tomorrow, IMG_0806.jpgIMG_0808.jpg

Man, that is a sweet rifle! I'd run that any day but probably in 308 just because I like 30 cal. In 7-08 the ballistics are pretty impressive at 17" barrel length. According to Quickload, 42.5gr of Varget should push a 140gr Accubond at 2650 fps. That will stay over 1800 fps past 500 yards with ~50" of drop.

There was a nice article in the NZ Hunter a few years back. They tested a 16" 308 and a 16" 7-08 with 130gr TSX in 308 and 120gr in the 7-08. Both reached around 3000fps with H335 if I remember right.

Nice rig Grant.

Ha, that's your old Sako,
Been meaning to get it converted for a couple years, 3.3kg all up, and 20.5" barrel including suppressor, DPT Duralium modular suppressor are pretty light 285g for std, and 330grams for the magnum can, can buy new blast baffle's if they get worn out, last upwards of a 1000 shots, dependent on heat and capacity of case.
rifle balances well, I will try it with the magnum suppressor, and see how it goes.
A 308 would properly be better, but didn't have one,
I would love to get a compact suppressed rifle, in .358win, cast and pistol bullets sub sonic for in close, and 225gr Serria for anything else.

Shouldn't there be a rule about posting photos of gear we can't legally own in Canada? lol

MAN...envy factor of 10/10. Keep up the good work.

That's impressive speed for a .308 so short !

My 14" 308 bolt action shoots 2600 fps with 150gr Hornady FMJBT and IMR 4198. But best accuracy is down at 2500 fps. A 165 SST with IMR 4198 maxes out at just under 2500. Good enough for killing things :). I'm just using 4198 because it's what I had around.

Sighted in, with seven shots, love it,
bore sighted last night,
drive out to Mount Dampier in the pissing rain, put target up at a spot in the bush, 75m, cheapest PPU ammo 140gr, and done in seven shots,
low and left, adjust on target in four adjustments and three to check,
four shots fired with Winchester 140gr, but rifles didn't eject any of these, 3 more rounds fired with the PPU 140gr all ejected,
quick stalk in on sum clearings, but only see one young goat, so left him alone, lots old pig sign, from the winter.
target is sideways,
