I just opened the box for a new Zeiss Conquest HD5 3-15x42, and I can't turn the side adjustment knob. I can lift it and turn it to reset the zero, but I can't turn it. It just doesn't move or click. The elevation knob clicks like it should and the parallex adjustment knob moves, but not the side knob. Is there a trick to this or is the scope defective?

I've only briefly handled this scope but I know they have locking knobs. You pull to adjust then push in to lock

You need to pull out on the turret to turn it to make adjustments. You need to loosen the screw in the turret to pull the turret even farther to reset the zero, without changing the scope adjustment. If the turret turns freely when you pull out the turret, without loosening the screw, the screw in the turret may already be loose. As well, there are zero pins in the turrets that will limit the amount that the turrets will turn. If you remove the screw, and pull off the turret, you can see if the pin is bottomed out. If the pin is bottomed out, remove the ring with the pin, and replace it with the pin opposite the place where it normally bottoms.
